View Full Version : Flowers
Flowers in my opinion are the hardest thing to grow, had this a while, it got flowers then it went 12/12 with some cheese and the flowers fell off so back to nature and proper veg it has stalks but no flowers after 5 months, actually bought this just so i could use a growlight after bust, missed growing anything.
Phaleanopsis, i think.

flowers are quite hard to keep looking there best, healthy and vibrant, rather than just a surviving yellow mess in the corner, I have to put my house plants and flowers near a window if they look peeky for a while, it all depends on the flowers light requirments and the unique ergonomics of your rooms and how much light actually gets in at what time of day, they soon perk up under some lights though dont they, I give mine a a sunny spot during summer and try and give them a little suppliment of enviro in the darker months, always best to do a little research on the web for what they like, some are well fussy and need special soil and everything.
Will have to take some picks of mine when they are in bloom and get em up on here, got a bit of a wait though=Christmas Cactus, Ive got two now, i rescued one once from a bedsit I used to live in years ago, it was in the bathroom looking all sad and yellowing, the pot was shit and had no depth for any real root growth and the compost was more like dried shredded cardboard, anyway I robbed the fucker when I left, it was only about 5inch tall and its sides were all rotten.
Its neaded repotting twice since ive had it, proper strong woody stem and sides, and the flowers it produces in December are amazing, while everything around outside is all wet brown and rotting back into the ground Ive got this one plant in my house that is just a mass of white and pink hues of colour and every winter I feel like Ive acheived something getting it back to health and seeing it fill its boots.
flowers are cheerful.

Phalaena, the name given by Carolus Linnaeus to a group of large moths; the flowers of some species supposedly resemble moths in flight. For this reason, the species are sometimes called Moth orchids.

i was gonna say that looks very much like an orchid.
Little tip for orchids mate - there not to keen on soil. Ur supposes to put the green root thingies in wood chips rather than soil and then into a clear pot as the roots like a little moisture and light

Look anything like ures does?
Think the reason ur flowers fell off mate is coz they flower in the summer and like as many hours daylight as they can so i dont think 12 hours cut it :D
Cheers mate,

Cacti will only flower when conditions are optimum but more when they choose to rather than simply got good light and soil etc etc, some in the wild dont flower for years mate, its a mystery as to when they choose too, I had a few in the greenhouse and were healthy all the time but only flowered occassionally, never like clockwork in the traditional sense like say a daffodill would in spring.
I am gonna repot mine n get a pic tomorrow if i remember.

Dude whats the summer cactus ?
i have an unknown (to me) variety of Schlumbergia (xmas cacti) that has leaf segments that are over a foot long, the flowers are huge and open at night lasting for approx 12 hrs.
