Im going to be going to b&q in the next day or so to get some bits for my ruck fan so while im there i might as well grab a couple of bags of soil.
I could do with some soil to start the seeds of in as my current grow is done stright from batmix and boy was that a mistake, im just left with 2 ill looking seedlings.
Also whats the best general soil thay do ? i might as well get a couple of bags while im there i dont plan on going back any time soon.
Cheers

What problem did you have with starting the seed in batmix and what strain was it?

Most of the seeds died after about 4-5 days the 2 that survived have very bad what looks like nuit burn, the leaves are turning a black colour and there looks like some sort of bubbling on the leaves as well.
The strain is bob marleys best from high quality seeds
Generally B&Q soil is proving to be pretty shit to use for canna plants, I'm sure those who've gone through crap with it will chime in. Are there any other brands at your B&Q other than their own? Or can you get elsewhere to look?

Do they look anything like this mate? Because these had those same symtoms aswell notice the leaves turning black.

Hi mr_stauf,
is it just a soil for starting seedlings off in mate? if so then i use B&Q sowing and cutting compost with a bit of perlite added then into the bat mix! never had any problems yet!
i got this pic from Diapers gallery of the stuff im talking about

I'll second that call!
And, I'll also stand up & say that the plain old multi purpose from b&q has served me well on several occassions.

Not really, the leaves on mine are a very very dark green that are now turning black. ill post a picture up tomorrow in the clinic.
Yeah the soil im mainly after is some starting off soil, i also wouldnt mind some cheaper brand soil as i've got a few lowryder diesel seeds im gonna start growing alongside these 2 ill seedlings and i dont really fancy wasting batmix on 4 lowryders.
Thanks.
Miricle grow multi purpose... i swear by it...

I'll always surgest westlands to folks. I've used it for a while now with good resaults, its got no peat in and its cheap. theres also the question of wether u need perlite or not, i'm doing some tests now myself.
as for germing, I've only ever done it in coco jiffys or on paper and I have around a 90% succes rate.
ps. sry about any mad spelling, dyslexic ;)

B&Q's standard multi-purpose compost(peat based) is 1 of the better store bought composts and what ever you do don't get the B&Q peat free as it's just badly rotted wood chips and sand and get's very heavy when watered because it's got real poor drainage,so stay well clear of it.

Ive just returned from my adventures at B&Q, i bought some B&Q standard multi-purpose compost and some B&Q seed seedlings and cutting compost.
Which nuits should i use for the multi purpose compost as ill be growing 4 lowryder diesels in that stuff ?
Anyway a big thanks to all that helped !!!
Yes, the B&Q MP is good stuff. I'd think you'd probably hardly need to feed Lowryders at all given their short lifespan etc. and at any rate don't feed them until they ask for it or you'll do more harm than good.

Anyone tried adding any bio biz premix to garden centre soils?
"Pre-Mix is an organic base fertiliser derived from organic matter, rock meal and trace elements. This microbially active blend is formulated to guarentee vigorous growth, abundant flowering and a good level of natural disease resistance. Pre-Mix has a N-P-K of 3-3-5."

I'm pretty against using peat based stuff.
