Nicotine and Germination

Sorry if there is a thread of this. I searched in Germination & Propagation and didn't see anything about nicotine.

It's only been a couple of days since I put my seeds in a paper towel, but I have a bit of anxiety so I always think something might go wrong. I started searching on all kinds of facts that might cause seeds not to germinate.

All the usual suspects where there. Heat, not enough too much, dark, moisture, too old, ect. Then I found one I hadn't heard before. On a couple of different sites I read that nicotine is poisonous to cannabis seeds.

So this has me a bit worried as I roll my own smokes all the time and they're unfiltered. So I'm sure my hands are covered in nicotine unless I wash them. This is just not something I really thought about before germination. I knew with clones keeping things sanitary, as it's an open wound prone to infection, is the way to go but is it like that with germinatin' seeds?

What are your guy's thoughts on it?

Did I mess up cause nicotine will harm the seeds?

Should I scrap the seeds and try again making sure everything is clean?

it never hurt any of the 20 seeds ive germed or put in to jiffys once germed with hands that are always got nicotine on from smoking rollups heavily nor has my clones suffered 15 of them so not many but if it was going to hurt them i guess it would of
a coulple of seed ive had took 5 days to germ but most cracked in a day or two

I know sometimes seeds can take a while to germ, but I just keep hearing everyone say how theirs do it within a day or two.

I just wanted to explore every possibility of what you could do wrong, so I won't worry.

Washing your hands before handling seeds, wont remove 100% of the nicotine from your hands but it will reduce the percentage as to be negligible.

Well, as you have discovered, nicotine is a poison so it can't be a good thing for your seeds. Could it have an effect? yes it could (emphasis on the word 'could'), however, if you take basic precautions to look after the seeds whilst you put them into germinate & again when you take them after germination & pot them I can't really see it would have a bearing.

i smoke alot and i use the paper towel method and iv never really had a problem. but it makes sense what your saying tho
