Up_in_smoke's DNA genetics Cataract Kush growout - 600W hps

Hi all

Well Dekay sent me this seed ages ago and I promised back then to do a diary the day I received the seed.
Veg room troubles down to moving stopped me being able to do that but now my loft is finished so I have a veg room again. And straight away I've popped some seeds, 1 of which is this DNA Cataract Kush bean.
Been looking forward to doing this one for a while, can't wait to see how it turns out so I'm being uber strict with feeding and pruning, gonna look after her a treat and hopefully she'll reward me with a wonderful diary and some very very nice bud.

Anyway, she broke the soil today so thought I'd start the diary right away.

Nutes will be started straight away with formulex in its feed from the off once it gets potted into a 1 litre (once she shows me some roots at the bottom of the puck). Then after about 1-2 weeks starting the Canna Vega + Cannazym (May get some rhizotonic too yet). That will continue until flowering which will be after about a 5-6 week veg, then I'll be switching to Canna Terra Flores + Canna Boost + Cannazym + PK13/14 (week 5 or 6 only). Gonna try to run them to 9 weeks to get the most out of em. and thats not counting preflowering either, only when I see true buds do I start counting flowering.

Vegging will be under a 250cfl (may get the mh out if the outside temps drop a bit), flowering under a 600hps.

Small update, she broke a root through today so I've potted her up into a 1 litre pot, soil is plagron light mix. Once potted up I gave her a plain water feed, ph was 7

Now shes out of the prop and under the light (250 cfl) but I've put the light a good foot or two away for now and the fan is also plenty far enough away so she has a very slight breeze. Possibly too much too fast? Not sure yet, will see how she holds out tomorrow, still hasn't shed the shell yet, I won't interfer

Small update
She shed her shell a couple of days ago and so far looks really healthy. First 2 leaves and the cotleydons are out. And this morning I've been figuring out a much lighter feeding schedule that adds a bit of N in early on in flowering to rule out a few things comes flower time, I always seem to get some sort of yellowing and nute burn so gotta fight it this time with a much lighter schedule.

She gets nothing but plain water this week, then next week (starting Monday) it'll be a half dose of formulex in each feed. The following week I'll move onto the proper vegging nutes.

Also the light and fan weren't overkill, she loves it there. Even lowered the light, tomorrow am gonna lower it even more.

Well guys, it was a case of, veg... or flower.
And unfortunately my flower room was just getting too hot for comfort and so I've had to change my fans around splitting the veg and flower cabs to each have their own seperate outside air intake. And this means I've had to put my powerful 4" onto my flower cab, meaning my lower powered 4" is now handling extraction in the veg room and the intake is a piece of shit really low powered 4" so its not going the best.

The only solution is for me to buy a new higher powered 6" ruck for my flower meaning I can use the lower powered 6" on intake duty, putting my veg room back how it was (quite a bit cooler), but I am skint as fuck so can't do it just yet, grrr, worst time considering they're seedlings.

Temporary measures I've had to put in place have affected the way things are growing which I'm not happy about but I've done the best with what I have. Any advice greatly appreciated, and yes I know the main one is sort out my ventilation, as you guys no doubt have gathered from me setting up the loft etc, money is very tight now, lol.

I've put in a more powerful circulating fan, but this has had the effect of blowing the plants nearly over but luckily I noticed in time and have held the plants up and moved the fan back as far as poss. Not ideal, but all I can really do at this moment in time, the smaller circulating wasn't cooling the air at all.
Also I've moved the light a lot further up away from the floor. The floor was quite hot being its white, so it seems to be having a radiator effect, hopefully moving the light up will combat this. I've put the plants on top of upside down pots to get them closer to the light however since the plants are heat stressed I've had to move the light a bit further away from them, causing them to stretch, making the cataract easy to blow over :(

They're in Plagron light mix and have been fed water for week 1, and have been fed a small dose of formulex this week.

99% sure this is heat stress, take a look guys but I'm pretty certain, don't think its nute burn or anything. The Vanilla Kushes (the ones on the left), the seeds were in storage for about 6 months, kept in a weed bag, in a sealed glass jar. They germed fine but my mate said maybe thats why the problems. But I reckon its the heat.

So anyway, heres the pic, sorry for the long post but want a nice detailed grow.
The Cataract is the one on the right and doesn't look as bad as the others heat wise, in fact it looks fairly ok, it looks a little limp in the pic due to the fact as I said it blew over.

Twisty leaves showing the heat stress, u done right moving light they will stretch but better than burning them, plenty of time to recover and they can handle more heat when they got a few leaves.:)

Day 28 from germination

Well so far so good. Looking very healthy, been getting mild doses of canna veg nutes. No signs of heat stress on her really now although still got something going on with my Vanilla Kushes but thats detailed in the other diary.

Topped her today too at 6 nodes, gonna give her another week or two then take cuts then a week or two after that its flip time, nice long healthy veg. :D

Day 34 from germination

Well still going well, upped the nutes a bit as they're getting bigger now. Potted up into final pots today and gave a good feed.

Looking very healthy green, the leaves are huge and blocking a bit of light going down so the stuff underneath isn't growing too quick but its catching up a bit since the plant was topped. The topping has almost taken properly, few more days.
Almost ready for taking some cuts too, another week or two.

These kush, or at least my kush is growing like fuck 2nd week 12/12, its massive now must have grown a good foot, not sure they all will do this as my headband is doing the opposite almost and hasnt hardly grown at all, which is totally different than the others on here??. Coming along nicely mate.:)

Tell me about it mate. I was waiting for a few nice shoots to take cuts from and then wanted to let her recover for 1-2 weeks. But if I do that, she'll be bleeding massive and may end up going too tall in flower. Starting to shit myself about it, lol. Hopefully the topping should stop her getting too ta. I haven't taken a look at your since you flipped, I'll have a butchers when i get home from work tonight mate.

Whilst you're here and I have your attention dude, if you don't mind, take a quick gander at my thread in the infirmary, having yellowing issues yet again with my flowering plant and wanna pin point the problem this time so this cataract don't end up going the same way. Had it the past 3 grows and no true idea as to why.

There is one thing i'll say, "i have never seen a cannabis plant with leaves that big" lol although im still pretty much a nube and had no real experence with reg strains i love this grow and would deff do this strain again,

Day 42 from germination

Well still all going really well. We've lost one big fan leaf so it looks a bit uneven at the top, lol. I dropped the light whilst moving it up and knocked the leaf off, lol. Ooops.
The topping has taken but the side that had the leaf off hasn't grown in unison with the other and so its kinda still got an apical point (is that the right word) so I've had to tuck the higher top under a fan leaf to try and get the other one growing more. Want a nice even split.

Taken some cuts now so shes a little shy of some foliage but gonna give her another 4 or 5 days then stick her in the flower room :D Let the fun times roll!

Update
Day 54 from Germination

Quite happy with progress, all are now in the flower cab. The Cataract has been in 12/12 for about 4 days, looking all good but not showing sex just yet. Looks like its going the right way though.

Having one problem with a handful of the lower leaves, it may be nothing but there are a few sample pics below, see what ya think. The top growth all looks good so thats the main thing.

Also below is a teaser pic of a Euphoria plant I'm growing, 13 days until harvest roughly, it had yellowing early on so don't be alarmed by the leaves, the buds are what matters and they look great, the plant had the cab to itself for ages and thats why its all strung up so I'm hoping for between 3-6 oz's off this plant. Gotta be more than 2 which is what I usually aim for.

Those bottom fans are nowt to worry about. It's just the result of those little bumps,knocks, creases, splashes that they've had over the weeks as the oldest leaves on the plant :) In fact in my umble, still having them on late into a grow shows they're being well looked after :joint:

I wouldnt worry about the leaves, looks kinda like they got a little nute splash. The plants overall health is astounding, (beautiful job on all your ladies) I doubt it would even skip a beat if you trimmed the leaves off. h

Day 61 from Germination
Day 4 Flowering

Very happy with progress this week. The whole cab looks very sexy and this Cataract is a beautiful plant. This so far is looking like my best grow yet, can't wait to see the next few weeks.
Plants are taking 3L per water now and slowly increasing, Fed their first dose of flower feed (flores + boost) on 18th and fed again yesterday but no nutes, just molasses and they absoloutly LOVED the molasses, major improvement overnight.

Well yep, you read right, that mother fucker is unfortunately now the HELL out of my flower chamber before he/she spreads its juices over my girls.

Really disappointed, others doing great with these seeds and all my other plants in that room doing good, no light interuptions or anything silly, plant was looking goregous so no stress in sight, just a bad seed :(

Was really looking forward to trying this strain, the plant was lovely and out of all my cuts taken, the cataracts were stunners, beautiful cuts, rapid growth. Now I see why, they're packing fucking testosterone, lol

Well, anyway, fucketedy fuck! So much for my multi strain crop, was really looking forward to having more than one type of weed. Delayed by a month or so now, oh well, next time will be Vanilla Kush and Trainwreck. And both those are guaranteed female as they're cuts!
