Hi guys,
I'm on my first grow, and am having a bit of a nightmare.
I planted 9 sativa shiva seeds in may, sprouted them all and then subsequently killed 7 in one day by leaving them under cover on a hot day, whilst still in their small peat pots..doh. I put the two survivors into 7l pots with John Innes no.3 and a bit of horticultural gravel, peat substitute and manure - the same mix as my bonsais get if they need good drainage.
Everything then went well until about 4 weeks ago when everything started to go (not) to pot. Before this I was already dreaming of having several oz to last the winter.
1 of the plants turned male and produced great big balls in one weekend (the only time I have been away in months). When I got back on the monday some of the balls had already opened - about 10% on a 4ft plant. I am now finding seeds on my lady. Now I am dreaming of about 1 oz to last the christmas hols.
About two weeks ago, when my lady was 2 weeks into flower I decided to by one of those little plastic greenhouses. This is about 6ft tall with a width and depth that allows less than a foot breathing space around my plant. With the amount of rain we've been getting lately I thought this was a good idea.. wrong!!
Within a few days I began to notice small green catterpillars hiding amongst my lush green flowers (the silky moth type). I picked off as many as I could, but everyday kept finding more. I have now sprayed these off with an insecticide suitable for crop plants. I'm petty sure they're all gone now.
Then, about a week ago I started to notice the dreaded budrot. I've cut the infected bits out.
After consultation with my gardening expert friend I have decided that this was due to lack of air circulation in my plastic greenhouse which is a very tight fit around my plant - you could see the condensation smothering the inside everymorning. I was opening the front whenever it stopped raining - which has been a rare moment. In the last couple of days I have left the front open at all times. It is still covered on top and 3 sides, which protects against most of the rain.
Now my main question is, should I bring it inside or not? will this help stop the rot? or will the reduction in light (my only suitable room, where the light wont get turned on at night) has a south facing window but due to the shape of my house will only receive direct sunlight between aout 1pm and sunset - for ventilation I could open the window slightly.
My reasoning is that it will be in less damp conditions, but my fear is that if the rot is already there the warmer, less ventilated conditions might help it spread. Also, less light would mean less productive flowers.
I also have few other questions:
1. I have 4 main colas and had to chop one down by about 8 inches due to rot - will this adversley affect my plant?
2. Due to the lack of sunshine my soil has been wet for over a week - no sign of root rot but don't know whether to worry about this or not.
3. If, as I suspect, my plant has been pollinated a bit (or a lot), is it worth continuing at all - I wont be using these seeds again as they are an indoor strain - I know there will be less goodies in the smoke, but how much less.
Sorry for making this so long winded, but I figure the more info I put out, the more accurate your answers will be.
Thanks
