Hi everybody. Been kind of a silent member for the past couple of years as i havent had the oppurtunity to grow. But i come here often to read journals and other posts dreaming of the day when i'm able to resume my all time greatest hobby.

Well this day finally came about 6 weeks ago when i germinated some old church fem i had stashed away. They're now in their penultimate pot size and i am going to start 12/12 as soon as they settle into their final 11l pot.

The soils i have always used and never had any issues with have been plagron light mix and bat mix. But unfortunatly my nearest hydro shop is 40 miles away and i can't order online anymore like i used to. So despite many many mixed reviews i thought i'd take a chance with B&Q mp purple 60l. Looks great, light and fluffy. minimal twigs no gnats etc. So after using up the last of my light mix i repotted them with b&q mp on friday night.

When i gave them PH 7, EC 0.2 water last night i tested the runoff and the readings were PH 4.7 and EC 2.6!!! This is way off scale and although there are no signs of burning or lockout yet i anticipate that there will be as the roots develop more. I don't really want to go adding lime or baking soda because that will just add to the EC problem. The only option really is to flush but i'm not sure if i should until they start showing signs of ill health. At the moment they are a lush dark green and growing quite rapidly.

Any advice on this matter will be hugely appreciated!

If you want it to stabilize the only alternative I know is to add dolomite. If you find another solution, let me know pls.

I'm burning a load of old wood for the alkaline ash, but this however will be added to a compost heap and allowed to rot over several months. For my potted plants, I've just been flushing a few times with plain water then adding a balanced NPK solution.
