Last night the actor Paul Newman, born Paul Leonard Newman on Jan 26th 1925 in Shaker Hights Ohio, died after a battle with cancer. He leaves behind his loving wife Joanne after a marage of more than 50 years (dont know about children, sry).
Newman was a prolific actor best known for his roles in Cat on a hot tin roof, a play by Tennessee Williams, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid & The Sting, the latter two co-staring with Robert Redford.
In later life he apeared in films such as The Colour of Money, in which he won his only oscar (best leading actor), and Road to Perdition.
His last role was in a Pixar animation called Mater and the Ghostlight.

Newman was also very well know for his charity work and it is estimated that his donations reach in exess of $100million. The profits from his named brand sauces and dressings also all go the charity.

Newman was a great actor and one of the last of that generation of actors in Hollywood, he will be sadly missed.

It's also been noted in the past that after Newmans first film role in a picture called The Golden Chalis he felt so bad about what he considerd a poor production that he took out an add in a paper apologising to prospective fans. Though I can find no referance to this it's a fairly well known story.
