Extractor Fan - xxxxm3/Hour
Rhino Filter - xxxxm3/Hour
xxxx = number
Does the Extractor Fan xxxx need to match Rhino Filter xxxx?
What type of extractor fan is the best? and intake fan too?
Is there any 'measurements' i should be looking for when buying a fan?
Ducting - I heard you can get sound proof ducting, is this worth it or just look into boxing up the extractor fan and looking into getting a silencer?

What type of extractor fan is the best? and intake fan too? The word on the street is that the RUCK fans are the very best you can get. I have one and I think they're excellent quality and pretty quiet, too.
It's easier (when matching) to look at the sizes in inches as they really do need to be matched in that way. So, a 6" fan for a 6" carbon filter etc, otherwise one component will wear out the other and decrease its performance.
Which size you'll need depends on the size of your grow area. Sometimes active intake fans aren't necessary as the exraction fan is often enough. You want to have negative air-pressure inside your area whatever else you do.
Ducting - I heard you can get sound proof ducting, is this worth it or just look into boxing up the extractor fan and looking into getting a silencer? In my opinion acoustic ducting is well worth the extra, but 'they' say that it's only really useful on 6" fans and above.

The filter rating should be at least equal to the fan rating, but it can be higher (which will probably also increase its effectiveness and possibly reduce any noise).

It does make things quieter (by all accounts), but it also reduces the air flow (possibly quite considerably). It's also really only going to be effective against duct-borne noise, and won't help reduce any exit noise ("whoosh").
You may want to think about putting the filter outside the grow space and blowing through it. You'll very likely get better air flow that way, along with some noise-reduction. But do make very sure that your ducting and connections are secure and air tight if you go this way.

Thanks Tabba thats helpful info! :)
I thought a intake fan was needed? If there was only a outtake fan would that kill the plants in the room if there is no air coming in? As in suffocate the plants?

If you don't want an intake fan then you will need a passive intake ( I use this ) which is just a hole in the wall so air is being sucked inside. this also helps with negative pressure to keep smells from leaking out.

Just came across this - these any good? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FAN-SILENCER-6-150mm-HYDROPONICS-ETC-REDUCE-NOISE-/270815853965?pt=UK_HomeGarden_Garden_PlantsSeedsBu lbs_JN&hash=item3f0de1fd8d
I see what you mean now Tabba, as the air being sucked in by filter/extractor - this will stop the smell going through the hole?

I've not used a silencer, Itchy, as my 6" extraction is quiet enough to sleep with. If I close the door to the room it's in, I cannot hear it at all from outside so noise isn't an issue. But it does depend on what size fan/filter (and what brand) you have and what sort of grow room / tent you have. I use a 1.2m x 2m tent and.. well.. have a look for yourself to see how I've done it with minimal acoustic ducting (I tried normal ducting beforwhand and the AD did make a noticeable difference to the sound levels) <goes to get phone>..

As you can see from the last pic.. my expelled air (well most of it) leaves the room if the door is open, which it always will be. Hopefully it'll warm up a bit of the flat in winter, too. ;)

That's a nice set up! I didn't even think of ducting above lol. That is roughly the size im looking at too mate and i really like the set up looks very tidy.

Cheers mate. In that case check out my multi-strain diary (link in my sig) as it has my complete specs in there. It may give you some ideas on what parts you wanna buy. There'll always be plenty of us here who'll help along the way, too.

Ah, it is there in my first post, it's just the way the forum's setup to not show too many in a thread or something, so it's not on the recent ones.
Anyway Here's the link to my new diary (http://www.thctalk.com/cannabis-forum/showthread.php?55315-Multi-Strain-Auto-s-Diary-%28consolidated%29&p=1068899219#post1068899219) :)
