I am preparing for my first grow and in preparing my grow room I selected a TaoTronics 90 W UFD grow light. I would like to know if anyone has had any experience with this light. I am planning on using it for the complete grow cycle, from seedling to harvest. I am hanging it inside a wardrobe box supporting one, maybe two plants. I can say this, it is freakin bright! The reviews on Amazon were generally quite positive but if there is anyone here that has had any first hand experience with this light and can offer any tips or warnings I am all ears and appreciative.

I recently read a very comprehensive post (by Wrams) regarding reflective surfaces. It seemed like a flat white paint is an effective, inexpensive approach. I was wondering if a flat white with a 'popcorn' texture would improve results. I am thinking it actually increases the reflective surface (similar to acoustic foam) but what the hell do I know? My plan is (at this moment) is to use a wardrobe box, prime the inside with a flat white and then apply a second coat, this one a sprayed on, flat white, with popcorn texture.
any thoughts?

However, I don't think my family that comes over is going to appreciate the smell as it grows bigger and stronger.

This is their grow area. Behind me (in the picture) I have about another 2 1/2-3 ft of space. Total space of closet is 5ft wide x2-3ft deep x 6 1/2-7ft tall

What can I use to kill the smell? The ceiling of the closet doesn't have a 'door' to the attic, it's sealed off. I leave the door open to try and keep my temps down otherwise they blast up to 84. Is there any way I can cool my room AND kill the smell without having to make holes in my walls for an affordable price?

Here's a picture of my current setup (PC case stealth grow):



As you can see, the right hand side of the case is lacking in light as the bulb's base gets in the way of a lot of the direct light. I was thinking maybe putting a couple of small bulbs up the other end, in front of and behind the large lampholder in the top right.

If I do that, there will be only be room enough for a couple of small bulbs. I've seen others using small CFL bulbs - are these going to be the bog standard bulbs you can get from B&Q etc, or can you get grow bulbs in that size? As far as I can google, all the CFL grow lights I could find were huge, even the low wattage ones.

Just looking for input or ideas really. I am currently planning my first grow, I am very anxious about having my grow set up correctly and am trying to be as thorough as I can in my research, so please have patience with my irritating questions..I am a complete novice and in the early stages of planning.

I intend to grow in a wooden wardrobe as my grow has to be discreet. The dimensions will roughly be 60cm Deep/70cm Width/170cm height. The wardrobe shall be purchased second hand and for the sole purpose of the grow. First question of many, Should I line the inside of the wardrobe with some sort of reflective material or paint?

I should tell you what I hope to achieve from the grow and where I am with my preparations. I am hoping to end up with at least 4oz of dried bud and the strain will be Northern Lights. I was planning to grow 2-3 plants max, can I expect 4oz..considering its my first grow? Regarding my choice of equipment at the moment I have decided on using 250W HPS light (1X dual spec bulb) and for ventilation a 4" ruck (carbon filter, ducting etc)

Thats where I am at. Its not much but its a start...there is so much info on this forum its so helpful..the stickys are a great help.

question 1 do you think the groom is a good size for a 2 plant scrog

question 2 will i be ok in that space with the 600w hps and a cooltube or should i use the 250w hps

question 3 what kind of ballpark yield do you think ill get with the Critical with the setup i have

that's about it i think for now i plan to grow a mom before i start and use her for cuttings also i have done 2 grows before but its been a long time as i stopped smoking for about 6 years started again to help with my health problems

So here I was looking to move last month, when a friend calls me and tells me about a house he knew of that was going to be available on the 1st of May, and it already had a room built up, electricity and all. Either they were going to tear everything out, or they could rent it to someone who wanted to use the room. It's is an established indoor soil setup, 10-12 foot high ceilings and about 16x12 ft (192 sq ft), the room is sealed and has awesome ventilation installed, and has never had mold problems. The temperature of the room is awesome, and the humidity isn't a problem at all.

The old occupant of the house was running 8 1000w HPS air-cooled hoods, and they did grow cycles with 80 plants. He would veg the plants for a month (in a separate, smaller room), then switch to 12/12 for two months. Doing this, they would only yielding 1lb of flowers from each light (every 10 plants). The strain he was using is a smaller plant (at harvest the plants were roughly 2 ft tall), but experience tells me that the amount he was getting is absurdly low. Everyone else that I talk to thinks the same.

After crawling this (and a few other) forums and talking to a few people who have 10+ years experience with this kinda thing, here are a few ideas that I think may maximize the output of this room while maintaining, if not increasing, the quality of the flowers.

  • Some sort of reflective paint on the walls inside the sealed room, maybe a mylar lining. (the walls are currently a matte color)
  • Angling the lights at 45 degrees on instead of hanging them directly overhead, while using multiple lower wattage lights (400-600w).
  • Including some cfls to fill out the spaces without light in the lower canopy.
  • Longer veg times to utilize the overhead space; less plants
  • Using fish emulsion? Guano? Anything else?



...and thats about all I can think of. Are any of those even good ideas? Does anybody have any suggestions about what I could do with this room?

Looking for a good fan controller for £70 and under to compliment this system.

what I need from my fan controller are the following:

- able to control 2 fans for intake and outake
- one that won't make my fans humm like F***
- something that I can just set at 27 degrees and leave for a week knowing that my babies are going to be ok.

Size will be:
3' deep x 4' wide x 6' tall
(~.9m x 1.2m x 1.8m)

I have some panda sheeting on order to wrap it in when it is done, will be getting a CF filter in time for the first ladies hitting flower, going to do soil organic medium.
Planning up to 5 autoflower or 2-3 normal photoperiod ladies at a time.

My questions are....
Lighting, do I need 600watt for this space or will 400 do?
Exhaust, what would be the recomended CFM i need for a space this size? I will be adding inlet screens so I can leave the flaps closed, I can do a bathroom style extraction fan at 50-75cfm or get a ruck fan if need be, just not sure what I need.
I will also have a fan of some sort inside for circulation and to help strengthen the girls.


All help, tips and comments appreciated.
