Hey guys, I have a ds60 tent with a 250w hps. I'm using a ruck 4"L1 as extract and rvk 4"as intake and they seems to be quite a bit of positive pressure. Normally with these fans although they're the same size, the ruck with the filter on you'd still get negative pressure as the ruck L1 is more powerful. I'm thinking it might be due to both fans having a 3amp fuse, should I try the ruck on a 5 amp?. The filter is a rhino and it's clean and not blocked or anything.

Reading around on here & in other places it seems to advise that when using a passive intake you generally should have it so it's about 1 1/2 to 2 x bigger than than the outlet fan size.

However there are a few opinions that differ- ie they say that the intake should match or even be smaller than the outlet.

It looks like it's a bit clearer when using an active inlet - the advice then is always to use a smaller inlet size than your outlet.

To achieve negative pressure using only a PASSIVE inlet does anyone have a definitive tried & tested answer to this regarding sizes ?

cheers

The time has come to purchase my ventilation gear, my baby is getting bigger and could use proper ventilation and not to mention ill be fucked if im going without a carbon filter when she starts flowering hahha

My groom is an ok size, im umming and ahhing weather to upgrade its size but at the moment its about W=1.2M and L=3m H=2m, imagine a long rectangle box but small in width you could say. if i do decide to upgrade the size it would be around W=2M L=3M H=2m (all i would be doing is extending the width a bit.)

Ive been looking at at Phat and Rhino for the carbon filter, i understand this is an area that cant be cheaped out on.. At the moment im leaning towards Phat filters as i can have it shipped interstate and wont have customs opening my packages unlike if i buy a Rhino filter from overseas (Ive enquired at the hydro store and they want $200 for some no name brand filter and just under $300 for a rhino one shipped in)

I can acquire a 6" Phat filter kit with a inline fan and ducting and silencer etc for like $250 will this be enough for my groom or should i bump it up and go the 8" kit, the 8" is a bit more but i can live with it if i have to choose the 8"

For sucking in fresh air i was just going to but a cheap fan and ducting (same size as carbon filter and fan) and have it sucking fresh air through a hole in the wall but it worries me that the smell may still seep through the ducting of the fresh air extraction fan, will this happen or do i need another carbon filter on this one too?

Last but not least, will this carbon filter smell proof my groom? the rooms completely light tight, and nearly completely air tight after a few things i have to fix up. (my baby is only in the 2nd week of veg the smell has not come yet)

Thanks for taking the time to read my long ass essay

Much appreciation in advance, cheers once again

ThebudKing

P.S there will be a max of 3 plants at a time with 2 400w hps on them, maybe 3 (there actually 600W hps, but i only got 400w globes at the moment.)

I have a grow room in my attic that I've put together using an old grow tent it's not at all sealed and has flaps that overhang etc but during lights off it stays completely dark so does the job.

It's usually cold p there through the winter and is only just starting to warm up to decent temps now minimum of 16c max 26c.

I have 2 x 600w lights using an iws system for 5 plants. I have an oscillating fan in there (large) an intake fan that is connected to an outside vent with ducting bringing fresh air in and a carbon filter that is connected to ducting leading to another vent outside. The carbon filter is absolutely massive the largest rhino one you can get and vibrates as its so big I have it standing upright on the floor. It's well ventilated naturally up there so I haven't been getting any smells come into the house so haven't had the filter on at all yet but this might change now the weather is warming up.

Question is which way would I best use the an connected the vent? Should I use it as an intake or outtake fan which one would be the most beneficial out of the two? The room is nowhere near sealed so I can't see it working effectively as a an outtake fan so I have used as an intake fan as its bringing fresh CO2 into the room.

Does this sound best to you lot or what? The room I've partitioned off is 4ft by 6ft.

Cheers.

Hey,

I am putting together my first grow and am desperate for some advice on ventilation. I recently decided to go for 250Watts HPS for lightning over CFLs. I shall be growing in a wardrobe that backs onto an outside wall with the intended grow space to be approximately 60X60cm. In another forum someone recommended a 4" Ruck? Can anyone explain to me how this kind of fan works..and how would you go about instillation in a wardrobe? Also I really need to ventilation to be as quiet as possible...obviously :)

I am a complete novice to this so am not overly familiar with even the basics. Sorry if this has posted previously.
Thanks

I have just started to build my grow room in an old coal bunker (cupboard) inside my garage.I will soon be installing my rhino CF, but am struggling with an out-take. I was thinking about not having one and just opening and shutting the door a few times a day for ventilation. Now Im leaning towards cutting out a whole in the bottom of the wooden door to vent, I would cover it with an old set of drawers with a gap at the bottom. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Also now what about getting clean air in? I am thinking this could be achieved by a few swift door movements, even opening the main garage door now and again? Or is it not worth it as presumably it will invite more bugs?
Please help an enthusiastic yet inexperienced gardener who at 35 is attempting his first grow. thanks

My grow tent is in my bed room and i have go in to the attic for exhaust ventilation. For intake i have ducting that sits near an open window in my bedroom. What I want to do is put a 6inch rvk in the attic and rap it up to reduce noise. The problem is that the attic is quite well sealed with no vents. There is a fan in the bathroom that also blows in to the attic and I was thinking of removing it and running some ducting in to the bathroom and let it sit near the window.

So kind of like this:

Tent -> filter in tent -> 2m of ducting in to attic -> 6inch rvk -> 4 m ducting in attic down in to bathroom and pointed near the window.

Would i be better off just exhausting in to the attic? I am renting and can't drill holes in the outer walls or make a vent in the roof. I am not sure if there is any air holes in the attic and if the tent air is just ending up going back in to the house through a crack in the attic door. I won't know until it starts smelling and i can see how bad the situation is.

Other option is to try and seal the bathroom vent and the attic door and try and force the air outside through any tiny vents that might exist in the attic, although i couldn't see any when i looked. Ideally i would have a vent in the attic going outside, any stealth ways to make a vent in an attic without causing leaks and other issues?

Hey guys. Thanks in advance for any replies. Basically Im looking to put a DR 240 in a tent in my spare room. What im thinking is if i have active intake from the window then can i vent the air from the tent into the room with the tent in it as all the air in the tent will be coming from external source. It will be two 600's that ill be using. The room with the tent in it getting too hot shouldnt be a problem I think as cold air will be brought into the tent from outside. I will have my lights on from 7 pm -7 am or somthing like that so it will be on at night bringing in cold air. I live in Ireland about 10 miles from the coast so it does get pretty cold in Winter. Maybe around 0 degrees at night time for a period of time in winter. Will this air be too cold to be brought into the tent or will it be ok seeing as im running 1200 watts. I will be growing in two coolers hydroponically with 1 plant under each light. Thanks for replies

I'll begin saying I've done both a few searches, but I've not managed to find anything that answers my questions.

I'm growing in the loft, using a 600w HPS, and now it's starting to get warm it's turning into an oven up there!
I vent into our airing cupboard (free heat to help dry the clothes! :dance2: ) but I'm not sure where's best to intake from?

My house can get stupidly warm in summer, and it usually feels cooler outside than in at that time of the year. I also have problems with noise if I intake from the house, as the only other rooms I have available are bedrooms, where I can't have the hum of a fan.

So I was thinking about behind the tiles, or from the eaves.

Which is best?
Is there somewhere else better?
Should I attach a pre-filter to stop dust being sucked in?
What kind of filter should be used? I can't really have a 4" Rhino sticking out from the tiles now can I?

Cheers guys and girls

Ideally for one that will not strain my fans or give any buzzing noise, able to set the temperature and leave for long periods (e.g. a week or so).

As the title states I am on a £150 budget

Would really appreciate any opinions, reviews and feedback.

If i'm running a 1.5x1.5x1.5m groom with a 250w hps air cooled hood, would a 4in (hurricane) ~180cfm inline fan be enough to run a passive intake and then run the standard CF>fan>ducting>vented hood>ducting>exhaust?

Do most growers just have the beginning of their duct/air cooled light system suck in air FROM the grow room itself, OR do they have the air come in from OUTSIDE the room?

My fan has a flowrate of 2450 m3/hr whilst the filter spec says 1420 m3/hr. I'm a little unclear what happens if I run the fan beyond the filter's specified flowrate. Presumably one of two things will happen:

Either the fan will pull too much air through the filter, causing smelly air to be extracted.

Or the fan will get resistance from the filter and eventually burn itself out.

I would guess the latter but can anyone give me a definite anwer?

Are there any reasonable price aircon that will last a long time and can reduce temps. I would guess that cheap commercial aircon would not be strong enough to cool even a small grow tent ? Have you ever heard of anyone using air con before to cool a grow tent? I think they might be expensive to run? I am sure there are some obvious downsides that I have missed or everyone would be using it. Does anyone has any recommendation for an aircon that would cool a grow tent? is that even possible?
