passing on lazy growing techniques isn't the one,
for someone to start out you need to know whats going on,so teaching them to read the run off is part of the learning,
that way they can understand problems themselves and in turn pass it to others,

classing it as over rated im not sure where your coming from with that??
flushing it with plain water isn't fixing it,its not finding out whats wrong.

teaching people the right way so they can help themselves and if when there confident
with coco they get the feel of it and don't need to check fair enough.

Asking him to read the run off so you can eliminate ph problems, feed problems then go from there,
sometimes chucking water through is not going to help,
especially if its underfed or suffering some other deficiency.
but telling him reading the ec run off isn't important is right??????

But your insisting on the EC having to be checked. I understand the Ph is vital and has a narrow margin of error but the EC can vary widely from 0.4 - 3.4 , all depending on plant size and desired results obviously but the Ph will always be the same as the plant will/can only absorb certain elements at certain Ph levels.

The reason I say flush the medium is its coco and inert so to get back to square 1 basically. Then add nutrients as required to the EC level needed.

So do you have a Ph meter now?
If so what was the Ph in and out readings.???

If out is higher than in, then the Ph is to high in the medium so use a lower Ph in your 'flush solution' to help even it out.
Once your flushed threw solution/run off becomes the right Ph adjust your flush solution to the right Ph/EC and put this threw the medium to have a consistent measurement going threw it to kinda stabilise it.
Hope that helps, we all have out own way of doing things and we all have opinions on how things should be done.
