You don't have to do anything with the hardware & do a factory reset - all you have to do is get a tool from AppGeeker clear the password. Create the reset disk, boot off it

Make sure when you get back into your PC that you create a password reset disk, that way in future you will be able to use it to get in your system. If you have another admin account you can log in to that one and change the password to the account you don't have access to. Alternatively you can go into safe mode by restarting the PC and pressing f8 during boot up, this should boot into the default admin account and you should be able to access the account that you no longer have the password to.

It is not complicated to reset windows password and enter windows while you forgot it.
What you need indeed for Windows password recovery is a software named Windows Password Unlocker to handle that.
I have ever used this one for Windows 8 password reset, it helped very well and also compatible with windows xp/vista/7/8.

I have to bring it to your attention that Windows has not provided a way to reset Windows password when you forgot it. However, there are tools which you can download form another computer that you can use to reset your Windows 7 password. You can try several ways:
    1.safe mode
    2. Windows password reset disk
    3. third-party tool such as
    [1]Ohpcrack
[2]Offline NT Password & Registry Editor
    [3]SmartKey Windows Password Recovery
