changing a light

Im about a week into 12 12 with my 2 plants and the bulb in my 400w hps is in desperate need of a change, i have a brand new 250 hps was just wondering if i could just take the 400 out and carry on with the 250 does anyone think this will have an effect on them ?

No it will be fine. You should be able to get your 250 closer though because it puts our less heat.

woah i really wouldnt advise that mate youl end up blowing your bulb and wrecking your ballast

if y6ou have a whole new set ie. a 250 ballast and a 250 bulb itll be fine but DONT put your 250 bulb in the 400 ballast

Absolutely agree - I was assuming whole new setup. As ashman says DO NOT put a 250W bulb into 400 ballast - risk of death to follow!!!!!!!!
