Default How to build a veg cabinet for a tenner

Hello world of THCT. Today I built my self a new vegging cabinet for around a tenner, so thought I would write a guide to document how easy and cheap you can provide somewhere to root clones and pre veg small plants up ready for the transition to the MH etc. It also provides a perfect limbo space if you have plants still in flower in your tent. You could take cuts at week 2/3 flower, root them and veg them. Then finally move them up to your main growing space with no need for keeping mums.

The dimensions are 360mm x 500mm x 760mm but they could easily be adapted to suit.

First of all I went and bought some dressed timber from B+Q. Could have picked it up much cheaper at a local timber yard, but for the small amount I needed there was no point in the extra hassle as B+Q's right on my door step.

Picked up 3 lengths of 2.5m (2500mm) 30x30mm treated timber for £2.50 each.

Next I went to my local grow shop and picked up 2x2m of black out sheeting for £3 (£1.50 per meter)

    Tools I used.

I've already got a 125w MaxxiBright blue CFL and some old Xbox fans kicking about I have salvaged so there was the lighting and ventilation sorted. I would advise using cfl's and pc fans if your using such a small space.

    Right lets get started....

Cut the timber to 4 lengths of 700mm, 500mm and 300mm. You could adapt these dimensions to what ever space you need.

Center marked, counter sunk and pilot drilled with a 2.5mm drill bit

Screwed together the top and bottom frames. Counter sunk the screws to avoid snagging the plastic. Same reason I sourced smooth wood.

    Main frame assembled

Right now we have our basic box we want time to install the fans.

I had some old xbox fans kicking about, so I found some suitable phone chargers (Used an old Sony Ericsson and a Samsung one that were 5v and 4.9v)

    Wired them up

Then installed them. I just wedged the bit of wood down and screwed it in place. No need to attach the fans as they were securely wedged in place. I placed one in the top corner and one in the bottom corner for intake and exhaust. Also stapled the cables out of the way.

Also made a start on the plastic sheeting. Decided to wrap the two sides and the back at once, the bottom and the top separately and leave the front till last. I cut the plastic that was covering the fans once it was all wrapped.

Stapled edges down neatly. Then wrapped all the edges in gaffer tape.

And finally hung the reflector and fitted the light

For the door I have attached the sheeting at the top edge with staples and am planning on getting some velcro for the bottom edge to keep the door in place.

So here we have a cheap and simple cloning and pre-veg area that wont break the bank. Handy if you don't have much space or a spare cupboard. Can also easily be disassembled and put back together if needs be

Thanks a lot for doing this. Been wanting to do something just like this at the moment. Seems so simple now that you have done it, just have such a problem doing any construction like this myself and the way you have done it, i have no excuse now. Can start taking some clones next

    Thankyou Chu

Yeah its far cheaper than buying a small tent like a dr60 or whatever. Plus you can adapt it to any size you wanted.

No problem mate. If it helps one person out it was all worthwhile

Just for the record Im utter bollocks at joinery haha. Anyone can bash together a frame like that If I can. Just make sure you think three times, measure twice and cut once. Also pilot holes make life much easier.

Plus if anything goes wrong you've always got the gaffer tape!

    Keep it green

Perfect.. Just what I was looking for.. Thanks chap! Looks like I'll be going back to B&Q very soon lol.

Also, with the blackout sheeting, would it be possible to keep this mini veg room in the groom? So it would save a bit of money having to put another heater into a different room?

    Thanks!
