for me it depends on space, with a big enough area id use mh/hps (and would probably add an led lol), but for smaller spaces where heat is an issue led is a winner.

I've been running a 60x60x140 tent the last few years with an HPS

    Wink

Started with HID, 400 watts over three plants.
Then it was 1200 watts over one plant.
It got up to 10 fixtures at 400 watts each, and HPS was blended in. HPS was taken back out, must be the strain I grew 'cause HPS did not function well.

The 4000 watts of HID got replaced by 2250 watts of LED.
Another 2800 watts of supplemental fluorescent lighting surrounded the area, UVB and reds for the most part.

This lit up a five plant perpetual in 4 square meters of grow area. Plants averaged 12 to 14 ounces each. Last year's heart attack required surgery and the system had to be sold for expenses.

Now it is back to HID, 4 fixtures at 1600 watts and fluorescents at 1800 watts. Far Red LED for night at 39 watts.
Plants are smaller with the ceramic metal halide, 8 to 10 ounces for the same electricity per plant (1100 watts per each) than the yields from LED Click image for larger version.

And I keep learning new stuff every new year, growing is never boring.

And how many plants you got there lol? To OP I run both hps and mh, seriously looking at LED though.
