Default Anybody know much about succulents?

We have a few san pedro we got last year, got them out of winter dormancy, and mostly they've been doing quite well, considering we know nothing much about cactuses, but there's one where i had to remove a large portion of the top of the cactus due to rot, and basically the top is cut in half, it's growing is stunted compared to the other, but I'm getting rather concerned it now wants to grow sideways. The bottom also looks quite gray, but it doesnt feel mushy... Should i cut the whole top off, bin it or see what happens?
