Default How to germinate seeds like Yekke

Welcome to the Yekke manual to starting seeds!

To use the Yekke method you will need:
    1. Cannabis seeds
    2. Small cup of tap water
    3. Paper towels
    4. Ziplock type bag

    Stage 1:
Take the (1) Cannabis Seeds and dunk them in a (2) small cup of tap water.
Place the cup at around 25°C (=77°F) until the seeds crack and a white tail is visible. This should take 12-48 hours, but can take up to 4 and even 7 days.

    *Notes:
-Clearly mark the cup with what seeds are in it. Some people tape the pack to the cup.
-Use tap water. The chlorine will help against mold and bacteria.
-The seeds might not all pop at the same time. Check multiple times.

    Stage 2:
Wet 3 sheets of paper towels folded 4 times (should be about 1/4 the size of 1 sheet) with new tap water to reach field capacity. Field capacity is the point in which a medium holds as much water as it can without dripping.
Put your seed in the middle and fold the wet paper towels over it.
Place the folded wet paper towels to cover the seed from both sides and stick into the ziplock bag.
Place the ziplock bag so the paper towels sit vertically at 24-28°C until the cotyledons pop out of the seed shell
Open the paper towels twice a day to vent and to check on the seedlings

    *Notes:
-Each time you open the ziplock bag check for the smell - if a sour smell is starting to build up immediately change the paper towels to new ones.
-Be very careful with the seedlings as they are very easily damaged. Use tweezers rather than fingers
-Sitting the paper towels vertically will make the tap root grow straight down and thus much easier to plant later
-Adding mycorrhiza to the water used to wet the paper towels will enhance your chances and speed.

    Stage 3:
Carefully plant your seedlings in your medium of choice and water well.
Keep the top surface of the medium wet for the first 2-3 days by spraying it twice per day.

Field capacity is where I aim, no runoff when lifted.
This allows for more time before the towels dry out and so far worked well.
You could use lower water content too, I think it works fairly much the same.

Been cold lately so the process took a bit longer than usual, but it works well nonetheless.

    Stage 3:

At this stage you carefully plant the seedling in your medium of choice, soil for me, with the cotyledons just above the medium surface.

Free the plant and let it grow,
    -Yekke

    Nice shots there

What Cam & lenses do you use mate?
I've got the Canon 1100D, the kit lense (18 - 55mm) and a Tamron 70 - 200mm at the minute. Entry level thing but it's the best cam I've ever owned.
Been picking up stuff for it for a while like filters, macro tube / extensions, shutter release timer etc.

I need a decent Macro lense but they're all out of my price range at the moment. Too busy spending on this hobby lol.

For these pictures I was using a Nikon D3200 with a 40mm Nikor micro lens and a 7W Ikea LED light for lightning.
