    Default Modding a IWS

I am and currently using IWS with coco and having good results. I'm just thinking about tweeking it to get even better results.

My idea is to add some 6" air disks to each pot. (4) I've seen a air pump on Amazon which will suit my needs. The plan is to loose the things the pots sit onto to help drainage and add air stones in the bottom of each pot so it kind of makes them a DWC flood and drain hybrid with coco for a medium.

Do anybody here use this method or either use IWS or DWC and can have a input, cheers or even what's everyone's thoughts

You looking to have your air pump on a timer so it works just during the flood cycle ?

No, I'm on about having them on 24/7. Im thinking about dropping the level of the pots so the roots are constantly in the water/nutes. Removing the draining pots would cause this

If your wanting to do dwc with it then lose the co co and just use a net pot with clay pebbles

I converted mine for a few runs.An iws is good for dwc as you can drain back to the res to do necessary checks, leaving the pots alone.
I had good fun with it,but lots more things can go wrong, some examples are....

Its harder to keep constant water temps,it could get too hot or too cold.
Its a lot less forgiving in the case of a power cut or airpipe blockage than flood and drain,a couple of hours is all it takes to kill young plants.
    Airpumps are noisy
There are more but Im and cant think right now lol.

Give it a go,as I say its good fun
Did I see an increase in yield? Not really so iv gone back to f+d I prefer clay pebbles though.
    Maybe try the pebbles next

Im a tad confused as to what you mean ?

What kind of inner pots do you have as there are 3 different types ?

You want to be aiming for something like that, although thats quite a small net pot,you can use bigger ones

Thanks for the input guys. To clear my thoughts up a bit.

I wasn't intending of making them a DWC set up it was more of a case of adding more oxygen to my root system.

I'm getting good results but I'm unhappy of the colour of my roots and i think the growth rate could be quicker and I think more oxygen to the root is the way forward.

My idea is to keep them on a flood and drain system but to leave about 2-3" of water in the bottom of the pots, bubbling away until the next flood is due. Coz currently they are sat in about 1" of stagnant water/nutes
