    Default Cunning's balcony

    Hello chaps,

I'm just putting up my San Marzano tomato seedlings into autopots with coco/perlite. I've been dunking the rockwool cubes in pH 5.9 solution with formulex to an ec of 0.6.

I'm using rainwater with an background ec of 0 which is fantastic. There don't seem to be any nasties in the water as yet so I'll continue for now.

Watered in the toms with ec 0.8 Ionic coco grow.

    Here's some pics :

The chilli and pepper propagator which is a long way behind but the weather is good now so they should grow pretty quickly :

And my DWC herb box. Water temps are high now so both coriander and basil have bolted so I'll get some lemongrass in there shortly:

I'm really chuffed with the plants in the dwc box. So easy and big healthy plants.

Ionic nutes are really good. They seem to put the pH just right too with minimal pH down needed.

That's it for now. Fingers crossed these tomatoes establish quickly and I can turn the autopots on
Too weird to live, too rare to die

Thanks for looking in lads. There'll be no bud porn but hopefully big bunches of well trained plum tomatoes.

My rainwater system is plumbed in round the house and has a decent filter to catch bugs. It doesn't however filter microorganisms and bacteria so it's a bit of a risk but so far so good. I'll need to cover the autopot reservoir and the pots themselves to stop rain getting in and fucking with the air root zone but will cross that bridge when it comes. What I really need is a greenhouse!

Update time. The chillis are all but gone (had to go away for a bit and they didn't fare too well) so I've only got 4 tomatoes in the autopots.

They're doing pretty well though the weather has been pretty crap so far. A few days of sunshine and they'll shoot up but that's not on the cards. They're creeping along anyway.

I'm loving g the autopots and soft water. I add magnecal until ec reaches 0.4 then fill up with ionic coco grow until 1.2. So far no signs of trouble so I'll raise ec to 1.3 next time I fill the tank and continue to raise until about 2.2 in full fruit. These tomatoes are bloody greedy! I set the pH to 5.6 and it slowly rises to about 6 over about 10 days. Perfect

Been a while but finally the weather has warmed up and I have some plums on the way. The coco has been totally screwed through rainfall but I've finally got through a tank of feed and they're growing well.

Tomatoes are pretty big now, about 6' tall and covered in fruit. Problem is there's a fair few tomatoes with blossom end rot and they are taking their sweet time to ripen.

Im also shocked at the volume of nutrients these things use. To get the ec up to 2.2 I'm using a third of a litre bottle of Ionic coco bloom with each tank top up. That's with calmag and PK boost. Expensive stuff!
