Default soil PH meter reading almost 8... problem or not?

    Hey all,

Everyone says “you don’t need to worry about water PH when growing in soil” but here is what I am seeing in mine. I purchased one of those PH soil meters and it is saying that my soil is almost 8. Keeping in mind that PH should be between 6 & 7 for soil growing according to everyone. Here are my questions. 1. Are these meters a good representation of the actual soil PH? 2. If yes to #1, should I be adjusting my water PH to 6.0 or lower to try to bring it down? 3. Should I flush?

If I am off the mark altogether, what should I do?

Growing in organic soil with 1/3 perlite.
    600 watt MH HID lighting.
    Hand watering.
    Using General Organics, organic nutrients.

If it was a cheap meter, throw it in the bin, they are worse than useless...

It is Myke organic soil and is OMRI certified for organic growing. I used it with my last grow too but didn't get the meter until the end of the grow.

Yes... it is a cheapo. It is a 3 in 1 meter which tests moisture, light and PH. I got it for the moisture reading capabilities which seems to work ok. So, I should ignore the PH?

I just pick my pot up, then I know how moist the soil is

You are giving yourself a headache for nothing . Throw the meter away , and do NOT check the pH at all in soil .
No matter where you go , there you are .

You dont need to check it mate... the ph is set when its made.... the soil will buffer it back to what it was set at 😊
