Default Ironman's stealth hot box! UK SHED STYLE.

The time has come for a massive upgrade to my small yet valuable cabinet grow.

Those of you that know me or have seen my diaries, will know that my recent growing setup was hard to keep dialled in, especially with the English weather.
I had a small 60 x 60 x 1.5 cabinet grow with a 300w CFL and 4" exhaust and rhino filter. Both my grows have been in soil and that's what I'll be going with when the box is built.

The old room has been dismantled but will be used as a vegging room possibly.

The new stealth hot box will be just over a meter square and 1.8 meters high. The outside will be 1.2 square and 2mt high but this box will be insulated and plasterboarded to try and help keep my climate steady.

This project will not be a speedy one. I will be doing this 1 day a week so the updates will be slow.

I fit curtains and blind for a living, I am by no means a chippy or pretending to be one. If I can do this then most people can.

First off list of materials for building.
    5 x sheets 6 mm mdf 1.2 x 2.4
    5 x sheets plasterboard 1.2 x 2.4
    5 sheets 50mm insulation 1.2 x 2.4
    14 x 2x2 sawn timber 2mt
    12 x 2x2 sawn timber 2.4mt
    1 box 3" screws
    1 box 1" screws
40 to 50 right angle bracket (optional)
2 tubes of caulk or sealant
    White emulsion
    10mts stick on draught excluder
    6 pairs of hinges

You will need a decent tool box to do it. I'll be using a chop saw and a circular saw. Also a decent drill would be good.

So sub up if you fancy. I've done the electrics, which will be my first post after this then I will start the build tomorrow morning.

Any tips that don't mean changing my whole plan are welcome.

DO NOT DO THIS UNLESS YOU ARE CAPABLE ALWAYS GET IN A PRO TO CHECK AND TEST IF YOU DO.

2 weeks after I chopped my last grow I walked into my shed for a smoke, as usual. I have a tumble dryer in here and my wife had it on. I could smell fish. Dirty fish. Turned around to find smoke pouring from the junction box ( here when I moved here).
I turned off all electric and opened the box.

Yeah not good. I've done 2 grows and never checked it once. So this is my first job, leccy.

I have a pal who's a sparky so I did the work and he checked it and passed it.

New mcb in the main consumer unit with 4mm armor core wire running to my shed. New consumer fitted in the shed for double security. 1 mcb for the tumble dryer and 1 for the lights and 1 for my hot box.

    PASSED BY QUALIFIED SPARK.

Job 1 done. I've got all the materials so tomorrow the build starts.

Oh by the way I'm looking to germinate beginning of September so I've got plenty of time.😆

I've just read it again. I'm getting new kit also. 600w hps dimmable ballast and 6" rvk and filter. I will also have 4" inlet fan and another 1 set up for the warmer months. I've also just purchased thermostatic controllers for my heaters and fans so hopefully I can get it nailed easier.😆

Today's plan is to get as much frame work cut and assembled. I've managed to get tomorrow off work so as long as I can get a 150mm hole cutter in the morning, I should get quite a bit done. Especially as the kids will be at school.

So last night I worked out all the sizes for my frames. I couldn't work this out until I had the MDF. Good job too as it 1220 wide not 1200.

I plan to make 2 frames at just under 1220 x 1220, 1 Base and 1 top. Then 4 frames with the correct deductions, for the sides. Almost like 6 pre fab walls. Then screw them together and seal.

Frames are all mitred and I also used right angle brackets in the corners as the timber wasn't the straightest. Then screwed through the mitres.

Tonight I will be working out the door sizes. My plan is to put the doors on the corner of the box. So 1 750mm wide door on the front and 1 on the right hand side. The idea is to open both doors and the 2 corner supports that are in the middle of the doors will be removable, so I'll have a huge opening for plenty of accessibility.

Love it when B n q sell me 2 packs of timber that have the same labels on. 1 pack is 50mm x 45mm which is what I want and the other pack is 47mm x 47mm. Quality bit of cutting. Lol

Subbed up. I love a build

I like the way you've mitred the frames. I normally screw straight then sand the wonky edges but yours is much more professional

Thanks man. Pull up a front seat. I'm really looking forward to the doors. I think you'll be impressed, if I can put my idea in to practice. We'll see tho. Lol😆

I didn't get as much done today as I hoped as it pissed down until about 3oclock. As soon as it stopped raining I did get out and cut the doors and the support bar for the hinges.

Also the only 150mm hole cutter in could find was £60 and I wasn't paying that to drill 2 holes so I went to b n q and bought a reducer. So today I drilled my inlet and exhaust holes into the side of my shed.

So no pics today but I did manage to clamp the walls to the Base in position and pretend I was watering my plants. Lol

Next Sunday will be a productive day. Cutting the MDF ready to box the frames in. If it's dry on Sunday you may start to see something that resembles a g room. 😆
