Default New to Growing - Here's my LED grow room build.

Hi all, I'm new here and this is my first post.

I've not grown before and I don't smoke a lot (usually 1 small spliff in the evening or a puff or 2 on a bong) but I was getting sick of spending money on weed when I knew I could grow my own, plus I love growing things

I decided to convert a tall kitchen cabinet that is in my downstairs utility room. I wanted this to be as cool and cheap as possible to run and with yield not being that important I opted to go down the LED route.

    My setup consists of:

1x 105w Mars Hydro Reflector 48 IR LED Grow Light
    2x 125w CFL Light Bulbs 5500K
    1x 5” diameter, 200mm long Carbon Filter
1x 5" Inline Extractor Fan (up to 280 m3/hour airflow)
    4x 6.5 Litre Pots
Bio bizz Grow, Bloom And Topmax Organic Soil Nutrient

I am yet to buy warm white CFL's to swap over when in flowering stage.

I have bought various seeds to experiment with along with coconut potting compost but before I had a chance to start them a friend gave me 4 free plants that were about 4" tall so I've stuck with them for now.

I have a PH tester and a Min/Max thermometer in place plus a mechanical 24h timer.

The plants have only been in the grow cabinet for 5 days but have already more than doubled in size.

Your thoughts and tips would be much appreciated.

    Welcome to the forum pal.
    What springs to mind.
Get an EC meter for measuring the strength of your nutrient solution.
Air movement. Im not certain what would be best in such a small space but you will need some sort of fan to keep the air moving and strengthen your ladies.
Apart from that it doesnt look like a bad little setup.
Its quite hard to give advice without specific questions I find, so read the forums and post some questions and Im sure the guys here will be happy to help out.

    Hello buddy.
Groom looks tidy. A few hints and tips from me. You're using LED and heat shouldn't be a problem but If I were you I would change the position of the fan and the filter as the bend at the ducting you're having at the moment is seriously reducing the airflow. You should try and keep the ducting as straight as possible.
You also need to get a couple of clip on fans and find a way to attach them.
Why are you getting more CFLs? The Mars unit should make you proud from start to finish.
I would also get a hygrometer to keep an eye on the humidity and the temperature.
If you're planning to go coco you will need an EC meter and Coco nutes.
When taking photos - try to be at natural light to be able to spot any problems and deficiencies with the girls.

A quick update on my grow.

I am now 6 weeks in and 7 days ago I switched to 12/12 cycle and changed my CFL bulbs to Omega red spectrum 125w bulbs and switched the Mars LED unit to Bloom. The plants have been potted in 6.5 litre pots complete with clay stones and I have also started feeding them with BioBizz nutrients. I have a couple of small USB powered fans running off phone charger plugs and they are working an treat, air is moving nicely and temps holding steady at 75-80f.

I didn't use the coco on this grow, just normal potting compost. I have been checking Ph which is fine too.

I have to say they are growing like mad and look very healthy, there is bud showing all over the place

How are you handling light leaking in aground you're door? You don't want any at all in such a small space.

    Hi Jingo.

I have used a foam strip all around the door frame and adjusted the door to be a tight fit, I then set up 3 hooks on the inside of the door and 3 very heavy duty elastic bands attached to the inside sides of the cupboard. It takes a few seconds to attach them each time but they do keep the pulled very tightly closed with almost zero light leakage.
