Default When is the node no'd

Heres a question I havent noticed a definitive on, topping the plant at the 4th or 5th node as part of training it.

Does it matter how much growth/how many nodes are above the node where you garrote the young lady, i.e as the plant grows up, she also grows out and becomes more established, , so does it make a difference ? and why please.

    Thanks in advance

ASAP in my book to stop stretch as if you leave it an there's loads of nodes above
Then chances are the nodes will have stretched and have big gaps inbetween.
