Question Need help. Marijuana and Work life

First off this my first post on any Marijuana forums so sorry if it's not put together very well.

So first off just a background on me, I am currently 21 years old, and live in Illinois. I used to smoke marijuana in high school on and off to get high and I loved the feeling, but stopped once I got in colleg due to drug testing. I'm now done with college and have landed my dream job that I wanted since I went into the program. I passed the drug test no problem since its been so many years since I've smoked but I don't know if my company random drug tests, and due to my security I don't want to name the company. Every since I was young I've rode motocross and street bikes and all kinds of stuff and after crashes and stuff all these years I now develop pretty bad upper back pain right in between my shoulder blades after sitting or staying in one spot to long. I find myself squirming around even just sitting on the toilet for a few minutes trying to stop the pain. Laying down flat on my back tends to help the pain.

    Marijuana vs Prescription Pain Killers
I know there is tons of talk about this everywhere on the Internet but this is just my opinion. I've had many friends become addicted to prescription pain killers and I have always hated pills and drugs of that sort. I found when I used to smoke as a child a strain with a good body high was really good at easing the pain away. Illinois now does offer medical marijuana and I have been thinking about seriously going to a doctor and talking with them about a medical card.

    The problem...?
So now is where I want some recommendations. I have thought about going to the doctor and seeing if it's even something they would offer me a medical card on ( I know Illinois is pretty strict on it). But the problem is work. I've spent so long trying to get this job if smoking risks losing it, I don't know if I can risk it. I have thought about talking to my manager face to face to show him how serious about it and that it's not just something to have fun with. I am only 21 years old and fear he will think I'm just some young kid trying to get stoned every hour of my life when it's not like that. During the day while I'm active and working I am fine with the back pain. Staying active and moving around I don't even notice it. It's when I get home and try to relax or sleep at night. It would be simply be a night thing to help me relax and get a good night sleep for the next day.

Anyone who has been in a similar situation I would love to hear what you have to say. And please no comments like "then don't smoke weed". I spent a lot of time creating this forum for a serious medical reason that I would like help with. Once again, any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I suffer from immense back pain . Having a injury and slipping three discs in the process . I can only say your back needs a correction and some training and exercise . To strengthen and keep everything in its correct place . Cannabis will help but if your pain was anything like mine and also nerve related . I could drop to me knees and pee my pants . Not good at 25 I'm 42 now and suffer every now and then . But nothing like I did . It can be a slow recovery but will help .

Thanks for the input and it's something I have done before. I've been to the chiropractor a few times and let them work their magic and it definitely helps and I come out feeling much better. My only problem is it usually only lasts a short time like a few days, and don't have the time or money to be going to the chiropractor every week. Again, thanks for the input. I appreciate all the help I can get.

Is this the kind o job you can have a one to one chat with the boss or it's pretty simple self medicate and run the risk of losing your job or don't, I also belive there's more that can be done from within, imo's,diet, excercise.

Canada chiming in-- I'm so sorry to hear you're struggling with such a right-or-left scenario, especially if there is pain involved. But let me at least give you a few ideas of what it's like being a youth member who grew into the adult life while already prescribed Cannabis for pain control.

I was born with a muscle condition which promoted the likelihood of developing nerve pain & even damage, simply because my own muscles aren't properly structured. This means any and every movement equals to pain-- especially sitting in one position for longer than a few minutes.

Sound familiar, at least in a sense? If so, please let me go on.

A doctor with decades under his belt in a chronic pain unit prescribed me medical marijuana to control my pain. I was 15. Coming from a family that thought consuming "pot" was worse than consuming alcohol and identically as stigmatized as a street drug similar to cocaine. As you can imagine, this forced me to sit back and reevaluate my life decisions and goals, knowing that some of these things I would be much too sore to do.

But here's the second aspect of the scenario.

When someone gets a job which does not tell you to specify what prescriptions you take, and if/when they change, yet consumes marijuana within legal licensing,-- no one has the right to hold your employment over you. It's a prescription, just like an antibiotic could be. At least that's the way it is up here. Please do check into it, in case I'm wrong-- but if not, and you're safe within doctor's orders, you would even be able to bring such a case to court, given the assumption that your employers wouldn't want to see you on site with the stuff.

Now, if an employer or business does in fact condone and encourage testing to know exactly what their employees are prescribed, it would likely come into play that "Cannabis is known to impair the mind temporarily," thus, "promoting a hazardous work space." It would be considered a safety precaution. In this case, if I were you, I would consult a legal aid at the very least to find out what could be done about the topic. Otherwise, I'd start looking for other places/opportunities closely related to the job I had so wanted. But the best thing that the substance can give you is an open mind, and if you're willing to ease your pain with it, worse comes to worst you'll end up in a totally different field of interest and easily love it as much as your first dream job opportunity.

I'm sorry for the wall of text-- it's just hard seeing someone in the same shoes as I once was without any evident direction to take. I hope this helps somehow, if at all.

Came back to second this comment (again) because my first comment didn't post.

As I mentioned prior, my nerve pain and weak muscles had limited me to a wheelchair for nearly two years due to inevitable hip dislocations with each step I would take. I went from "wobbly newborn horse" to "stiff muscled robot" by the time 9mos came around, and ever since I've been walking -- although clumsily -- a lot more, and with much more accuracy, due to a self-forced exercise routine.

Know your limits, but always find them and work to surpass them. It can happen, and likely will, as long as you map out your body's reactions to what you do.

    hi.

    get yourself an "inversion table".

did my back seriously some years ago in bike accident n went through everything available to reduce pain etc, then one day someone suggested same to me n i bought one, havent looked back, wonderful invention and now worthwhile to have around for whenever i get lockup or the "hot back"(indicates pain is coming soon).

theres no excuses, just get one and learn to use it
