    Little story here .

My grandfather found a pumpkin seed packet in his Cold storage that was dated 1943 , in 1993 he found it , they looked well preserved he said , so he decided to try it , and it sprouted and grew just as well as new seeds ..... .

IF a seed is kept dry , out of moisture , especially in a cool dry place , chances are it will be viable , Let her soak in a cup of water with a 1/4 tsp of seaweed and she should go ......

Very interested to know how you got on with such old seed. Seeds are not completely dormant unless kept very cold, that's why the world has spent millions on a long term freeze store on the island of Svalbard in the Arctic. So in time they

Damn tree trunk fingers! So in time they lose their vigor. Some seeds from certain plants can survive for extended periods. I belive the Israelis grew some Date stones from an archaeological dig.

If you have some experience with the paper towel method, that will be your best choice. Just keep in mind that they might take a lot longer to pop than fresh seeds, even up to two weeks or more. Change out your paper towel and fresh water every two days, as well as any plate or baggie that you use. Otherwise you will be growing some significant fungus or mold on the paper towel while waiting for your seeds to pop, and have high risk of damping off.
