Since joining this forum a few months ago I have been back and forth between LED, CMH, 400v ballasts, double ended HPS and everything else out there. In the end I have decide to go for MH/dual spec HPS ( I have not skimped on the light output to allow for the dual spec HPS) and high end reflectors. I just think you get more bang for your buck and don't want to jump into something new as the whole light scene is changing so quickly whatever you buy now will be obsolete within 12 months.

HPS bulbs do not have to be replaced as often as people think....

Loki, a 315 system does not replace a 600 hps so wouldn't be a fair side by side.

    400/500w is more likely.

I've used one 315 for two grows now and a 400w hps has better penetration so you won't get anywhere near the depth as a 600 with one 315w light.

I've been interested in cmh lights for some time. They run cooler as well as the better spectrum etc.

Price is my issue. I'd also want two to replace my one 600w which would mean 2 hoods in my room or 1 double hood (neither feasable)

For me if that test was true all it says to me is that you need 24 expensive lights to replace 8 hps, you'd never be running more efficient, would take years of perfect grows

    i dont buy it.
the cmh are 225 quid each, so watt for watt you could have say 4 600w HPS, with MH and HPS bulbs and digi ballast for 360 quid or the equivalent CMH's of which you would ne1ed 8 at 225quid = 1800 quid.

So for the same wattage output its 360 quid for HPS vs 1800 quid for CMH.

i'll stick with the old 600s thanks 1400 quid would buy me a lot of leccy, and spare bulbs.

kinda reminds me of the "great" LEDs which were about a grand for a 1000w kind led say. --Dont see many of them about now either.
Ive seen CMH in action and they are super bright, but there is absolutely NO way they are worth the extra coin in my humble opinion.

Enjoy imnice - think it will be particularly valuable if you do a grow with CDM as you have completed plenty grows before and with different light types. Please do post up a thread someplace or post some outcomes and observations here matey.

my current ,somewhat farcical , diary grow is under just one of these cmh315's and im impressed so far ,as in the ability to grow four plants under a single 300w lamp goes anyway,no way would i attempt the same under a 300w led again, twas a miserable time lol.
same for say a 250hps as well, they simply dont kick out the amount of light im getting from the cmh.

im still reticent concerning the bulb cost but then im a tight old bastd, but im getting the same running costs and heat output as a 300w led so its a win so far.

yeh, know its a mess haha, the two rear ones were dead seedlings that had failed in a wilma fkup, being an emergency(i set fire to the wilma) the top right one is in a pot that still has the rootball of previous grow but the soil and cmh brought them back to life
