A Derry man who was caught smuggling cannabis concealed inside a kebab to his brother who was in police custody has been jailed for 18 months for the offence.
The cannabis was found last October 28 when police officers in Strand Road PSNI station searched the kebab after the arrested brother of Mark James McMullan had phoned him to bring in some food.
McMullan (22), from Kavanagh Court in the Ballymagroarty area of the city, placed a wrapper containing 14 grammes of cannabis into the kebab which he'd purchased at a fast food takeaway close to the police station.
When the police found the drug, they later searched McMullan's home where they found another 30 grammes of cannabis.
McMullan, who admitted possessing cannabis and possessing the drug with intent to supply it, also kept a sent text on his mobile phone which stated “I have no brown, only green”.
Jailing McMullan, Judge Desmond Marrinan told him that he was foolhardy in attempting to smuggle the cannabis inside a kebab into the police station.
McMullan, who has already spent 258 days in custody on remand for the offences, will be released from prison in three weeks’ time. He will then be on probation for two years.
