acoustic ducting - that helps with noise in the ducting.
A variac - so to control the speed of the fan. These are dead quiet. No hum, no buzzing.
Put your fan inside a thick cardboard box filled with foam (or expanding foam)

All those will help with noise.
Shit I just looked at the variac on ebay and they're £70 - £150! That's way out my budget. Dude I've got a shopping basket as a reflector ffs. FML.. So do all the cheap ones make a loud buzz? This is news to me I was only worrying about the fan and filter noise.

I'm defo going to try the box trick though. thanks for that

Has anyone ever tried one of these filters?

I'm thinking if getting a decent fan with a built in controller so i can turn it down (put it in a box) with some acoustic ducting and try and save a few quid with the filter (I'm guessing its the activated part that's really important)?

ebay 130591386004 - £60 does the job perfectly.

I don't know if all cheap ones make a noise, but the ones that do tend to shorten the life of the fan.

Thanks Toker, I think i'm gna go for the acoustic ducting and a fan i've found with a built in controller. Ill put the fan inside a thick box and pack it out with expanding foam then ill hang the fan inside the tent and use bungee chord to reduce vibration.

I'm hoping that will be ok but otherwise ill have to pick up a variac.

Thanks for all your help with this

I've noticed the temps in my tent drop to about 65f when the lights are off.. Is this too cold? When the lights are running its about 80-85f in there..

    Hi mate,

If you're going down the expanded foam route, you'll need to wrap the fan in clingfilm, and you'll need to make holes in the box, otherwise the box can "explode" as there's nowhere for the expanding foam to escape.

In that size tent I would say a four inch rvk fan for exhaust and a 4 inch tt or hydrobuddy fan for intake will be perfect. I had that in a 1.2x1.2x2m tent. Was a bit short but will do you ideal. You will not need a controller with that setup timers will do it nae bother.

Accoustic ducting is well worth it too.
