Default Grow diary: First Space Bucket

My very first grow and i think it would be good to keep track of it here and hopefully get some feedback from you guys.

It's a pretty standard space bucket, aside from slightly differently shaped buckets (around the top) that don't give me the luxury of easily stacking them neatly. I used small metal L brackets to ensure the buckets would stack the way i wanted to. That does lead to light leak but i'm not overly concerned since it's in a closet, even though it might waste a little light.

I used 5 CFL lights totalling 190w. 3x40w 6400k + 2x35w 2700k and wired them in parallel. I was very careful with the electrics to get the right rated wire for the current, using terminal blocks and duct tape liberally. I plan on keeping that configuration of spectrums to harvest although i do have spares and can change it if necessary.

I used two 44 cfm 120mm fans, one for inlet, one for outlet.

I germinated in Root Riot cubes under an incandescent light to keep the temps at about 24C. After 5 day i transferred it to the Space Bucket.

Soil used is John Inn's No. 2, mixed with 20% perlite and 10% vermiculite since i had it lying around. The strain i decided on is Big Bag. May seem like there's a lot of hype around it but it's indica dominant so i assume easier to keep short.

Nutrients i'm using will be Biobizz grow, bloom and top-max, going by their schedule. I have PH testing strips and PH Up and Down to adjust the PH. Ill start doing that when i start the feed. I have heard that this isn't that important with soil grows but oh well, can't hurt.

I also used mylar inside the buckets, just fyi.

Almost forgot to mention, i plan to do LST to control the height and level out the plant. I will keep it on a 20/4 veg until flowering and i will/may top it too, but only when there's a good few nodes.

Hey Viz. Thanks. I am in a slight panic after a small learning curve though. Don't drop your mobile phone on a seedling. It's fine, but holding a phone inside a small bucket next to a delicate plant might be an unwise idea.

How are you going to deal with the smell?

You know, i originally put a lot of effort in to designing a little carbon filter which would be pretty easy really, but nobody in my vicinity is very concerned about smell and everyone in the household is aware of the grow. Besides, i smoke weed about 2 meters away from it anyway so i'd imagine it won't be a major concern.

M_C, apologies for the links. I will be careful in future. Feel free, no shit, to remove my previous links. Besides, people can google stuff. We're not little kids here i hope

Edit: Calling my own bullshit. It would smell if i had those huge gaps in the buckets regardless, but originally i wanted to use an airtight Rubbermaid setup. In future i might still try that. I just fell in love with Space Buckets.

Nah, we're all grown ups (hopefully ) ...just we also have sponsors to be mindful of as they pay the bills around here

I can understand that. I used to host (gaming-related) forums myself and the one thing i learned from doing that is that the competition between forums is unprecedented. Just to keep forums relevant and well-maintained takes so much effort, as well as keeping a good moderating team. You are doing a great job.
