What part did someone say you were wrong. You yourself said your post was overkill.

I was aiming it more towards the second part of your reply

Overkill maybe, but dangerous I disagree ?

If there was a low amp fault, it would take the 6mm cable longer to trip than the recommended 2.5mm cable for power circuits. Such a fault could start a fire without tripping the breaker.

What are your reasons for disagreeing?

A low amp fault, that doesn't trip a breaker, could cause a larger core cable to get hot. If the cable is in trunking or going through insulation, then the chances are getting higher that a fire could start.

The BS 7671 on site guide, has tabulated times of how long it takes for breakers to snap off, regarding cable sizes & fault times compared with amp ratings for different breakers. Which is why, for the op, 2.5mm twin & earth is what he/ she should be using.

Just having a bit of friendly chat guys, don't want to come across as a tw*t in anyway at all

I've come here to try offer advice / gain advice that's all

I'm always happy to be proven wrong but I like to think I'm competent enough to give out sound advice

No one thinks you're being a tw*t mate, I'm the same, if I'm being told something I don't agree with, I want to know why too.

How do you guys hide the fact you have a massive wire coming from outside into the loft?

My fuse box is in my hall it's the newest edition.

Main electrical box is outside so lekky people can check.

Where would I spur from the fuse box or the outside box?

I would prefer much more sockets up there as I'm sourcing from a unused 2 gang socket and I've got like 3kw plugged into it.

Maybe more but not everything is on at the same time.

Want some pics of the fuse box?

You need to run cable from the box outside... do you have any mates that know about running power around... it might be easier for you to get someone in to do the spur from the main distro to a small distro in the loft... and then do the other bits yourself.
Loki's pics are brilliant and easy to understand if you fancy doing it yourself...
