I think the biggest issue with medicating individuals with autism is consent, informed consent can only be given if that person fully understands the consequences and the thing they are consenting to, I've worked with non-verbal people with autism who given the proper opportunity to communicate have shown to understand a great deal, and very verbal seemingly close to neuro-typical people who wouldn't be able to consent. For example I know my brother who is non-verbal would be able to weigh pros and cons and make an informed choice, but he'd only be able to communicate that to people who know his needs, but then he is also in his twenties. There are other concerns of consent with children so to sum up:

Medical use needs to be supervised and prescribed by a medical practitioner, especially in the cases of people who are not able to consent legally.
