I remember as a kid, my mum was a windowsill grower and she'd always start growing when she saw the first daffodils poking up.
Sorry, I know that's a bit of a loose tangent and not overly relevant to what you asked. Just a childhood memory that flashed up when I read your question.
Have a read on probiotics mate and you'll see why the old wife's tales can make sense, it's how soil life(microorganisms) react at times in the soil in moon phases etc.
There's a lot to it I would say it's like religion some believe some don't but I wouldn't argue against it because the life in soil does work miracles
