I am currently vegging 3 bb x ww plants under a 250w CFL bulb. I just wanted to know would this be suitable to use throughout the vegging stage or should I switch over to my 600w hps light? Any advice will be appreciated.
This is also my fist grow

So you recommend me switching to the hps now? Would plants this young be able to deal with the heat? Thanks for the reply
I am not a HPS grower, so best to wait for someone who does to answer that. I know the light will have to be far away from the plants if you do. The other option is more CFL, but that's more money and more electricity used.
There's no hush atm, as the pots look rather small, and you should be able to get away with it for a while. CFLs are great for young plants, but they do not have the light penetration as other types of light.
That CFL is probably fine until you pot up. Then switch to the HPS, and start with the lamp at least 24 inches from the plant tops. Gradually let them get closer over a few weeks, probably until they get to 12 inches or so
Hi mate, I've had my 3 autos under 600w hps from seed😉 no problems to report. Just start the light high and lower it slowly over a few days to about a foot from the top, then move it up as necessary. Hope this helps bud😉

I personally find a hps in veg can make plants kinda stemy/spindly or lanky if you get what I mean if you can I would try get a 400 metal halide for your vegging. But the 250 shoukd do you for a while yet Mate

They're nice and squat at the moment so I'm assuming you've got them under 6500k daylight bulbs, I'd give them at least one more week as they're enjoying it there. For veg, I'd only consider switching if you've got a dual spectrum HPS. There are noticeable differences in the node spacing (hps stretch a bit more) even with dual spec hps so ultimately its personal choice. If you have red spectrum hps I wouldn't switch until 12/12.
Thanks everyone for the feedback, I think I will change over to the hps dual spec next week
