Default Which LED for small hobby grow? How many plants?

    Hello,

New to the forum im looking to set up a small hobby grow. Ive grown for years outdoors and a few times indoor with HPS a long time ago. I am looking to grow with LED this time as i want to use as little power as possible.

    My grow space is 3'4"X2'2"X6'2"

I am looking for the best budget LED to make use of my space.

I have my eye on a VIPARSPECTRA 450w.

Do you guys think this is a good choice for my space?

How many plants should i be growing under it for optimum output?

I have only ever grown in compost and this is how i plan to grow this time as i am comfortable with it, unless somebody can suggest a reason to grow in another medium.

    Cheers

Rekon a 450 wouod be almost perfect.for that area or a 300 for one plant ,600led would be a tad too much but maybe not as you have height to hang her a tad higher, the infra red and uv band rays are strong for small plants . I once got 4oz off a skunk#1 a few years just off a 300 and organic soil and nutrients, without topping and barely paying attention to it .

I would go with a 600W Viparspectra if that is the brand you want, it pulls 276W from the plug. That would be more better than the 450W. That would be like having a 450W HPS as far as light goes on the 600W. You would be glad you did, when you do a scorg, or 3 plants. JMO Good luck and happy growing.

300w LED is the equivalent to 150w of hps so if the area of your room is 100cm x 60cm then you would want to have 1200w of led or 600w of hps because of course (1000w/m2) is optimal and you have 6000cm2 at 0.1w per cm2 you need 600w you want energy saving then you need to look at some Cob or Cree technology led's cause the old single light diodes are not much more efficient than hps

Within its footprint roughpy 12"x12" ,an led is worth 2x at around 10-12" but very quickly loses as you go up . All depending on the brand and whatnot . Ive done very well with led , and even better mixing it up with hps .

I agree with trex there, the leds do loose penetration quickly... you wouldnt get as good results say one led over x4 plants than you would with the same led over 1 plant, thats if your looking fr maximum yeild of course.
