Default Cloning a branch before cutting it

I hope this goes into the experimental section. I'm going to root a branch from a mother plant without cutting it first. I applied rooting gel first than covered it with a piece of GH rooting sponge and rapped plastic film around it to hold in moisture. Not sure if the picture successfully uploaded. The strain that I'm using is LSD from barneys farm grown in soil under a regular household CFL. Any questions?

If you don't cut the branch it will still be attached to the mother plant... Can you explain a little better in detail and let us know what the purpose is..

It's not hard to root a cutting?

Ok. I plan on cutting the branch after it is rooted and the purpose of this is to see if there is any improvement with this method. It isn't hard to root a cutting. I plan on uploading pictures sometime soon. Little root bumps are starting to appear and one the I've noticed is that the rooting process is slightly slower this way but that's fine because I'm looking for quality. I'm using a new iPhone that I'm not 100% familiar with and it might not be fully compatible with uploading cause it's not a mobile site. Anyway, I'm noticing progress!

your only gonna get the same clone whether you do a clone the way your doing it, or taking a standard cutting....1 won,t be better than the other... hence "clone".... so whats the point doing it your way? its much easier to take a few cuttings

The technique is called "Air Layering". It may have a use in marijuana propagating but is commonly used in fruit trees.

I've used it myself on apple varieties.

It's just another way to clone a plant.
I don't know anything... And I can prove it!

I think I get where you're coming from but it just seems more risky to me... more chance of the branch being infected while wrapped in a wet sponge. Plus any root growth would be much more exposed to light. Try removing possible problems from the situation and the outcome will always be better.... At least that's my prediction
