Brian Mathews has died

Veteran broadcaster Brian Matthew has died at the age of 88, his family has said.He had presented Sounds of the 60s on BBC Radio 2 since April 1990.
Earlier this week, the BBC announced his death before retracting the statement a few hours later.
Lewis Carnie, Head of BBC Radio 2, added: “Brian was one of this country’s most popular and best loved presenters, delighting millions of listeners with his memories and favourite tunes on Sounds of the Sixties for 27 years.
"On behalf of everyone at Radio 2, we send love and our best wishes to his family at this difficult time.”
Bob Shennan, Director of BBC Radio and Music, and former BBC Radio 2 Controller, said: “Brian was a radio legend.
"For decades, his voice was the sound of Saturday mornings, giving pleasure to listeners on Sounds of the Sixties with his wit and warmth.
"He will be sorely missed.”
Brian announced in January that he'd be stepping down from his presenting job due to poor health.
And at the time, the station said it was the "right time" for Brian to retire after an "extended bout of ill health".
Up until November last year, Brian had presented the Saturday morning show for more than 26 years.
Brian had presented Sounds of the Sixties since April 1990, and presented his last full show on November 19. On Saturday, February 25,
Brian presented his final show, a compilation of his favourite moments from his time at Radio 2.
Brian started broadcasting in 1948 in Germany, and trained as an actor at RADA before joining the BBC in 1954.
He had a great love of the theatre and performed in many well-known venues. He even had his own 50-seat studio theatre in his home.


I listened to this guy every saturday morning in the car on my way to work for years.
