Default Whats them mylar hats on top of pots for

I have seen many vids and photos where people have cut out mylar circle hats on top of their pots.

Are they to stop lights drying out pots and reduce humidity?? Just my guess.

Hmm other then dwc like joker said i wouldnt use them ,would trap too much moisture and cause pests to flourish imo . Especially in soil it would be a nightmare .

I've used black trash bags cut to block light over expanded clay.
It works well to stop algae from growing on your medium.

That's the only reason i can see using it

A lot of people are using them now to create a mycelial layer(fungal hyphae) on top of the soil to water and top dress on and these this would create the same effect that goes on under the soil and the people doing this are mostly using the self irrigated planters (sip's)
And the above reasons of course

its to prevent algae growing on top of whatever rootplug the plant is in by cutting out one of the conditions algea needs,ie light.
