First grow -my head hurts

First of many daft questions. Had some advice from guy in shop (henceforth referred to as GIS) but want to validate his thoughts with you guys.

1. Should I germinate seeds before putting them into Jiffi plugs? GIS says put seeds straight into plugs.

2. GIS says I can put T5 light on top of propagator, which seems ok but surely once the seed pokes its head up I guess it's going to need air. I assume at that point I take the lid off the propagator and move the light up?

3. GIS says that once roots emerge from the plug I can transfer to a Rhizopot and put the baby in my tent under an HPS light?

4. Kit is on its way but I haven't ordered seeds yet. Unsurprisingly I'm looking for an easy, fast first grow. I prefer mellow to comatose. Any suggestions?
