Ive just checked my ebay history and i paid £25 for a 4 inch carbon filter. Does this seem cheap to you, they appear to be closer to £40 now.....
There are no mistakes. The events we bring upon ourselves, no matter how unpleasant, are necessary in order to learn what we need to learn; whatever steps we take, they're necessary to reach the places we've chosen to go.

The best bet is to blow air through your air hood because you want to create a positive pressure inside your air hood not negative when the filter is before the lights.

If space is an issue maybe try running the carbon filter right at the end of your ducting. I'd keep the fan close to the intake tho, fans generally seem to prefer blowing air than sucking it.

That's how mine is also set up. Filter>Fan>Duct>Cool Tube(Cold air)>Duct(Hot air exit)

Pro FTW mate. They last twice as long and only a slight price difference.

    Bang on buddy ^^^^^^

The problem is most suppliers know this and try to hide the fact that it's a hobby.

If humidity is too high, that can let the smell through the filter.

you still need to check the duct run, even if getting new filter.

you can have neg pressure and still be pulling stink into the duct after the filter if using the cooled hood inline.

suck is suck, slightest tiny hole will let noticable smell into the wrong side of the filter even with neg pressure.

agree on the pro filter, worth spending out on,essential bit of the kit.
