    Default Making an auto flower

    Read this on another forum:

Weeks 4 - 6. The plants are now entering a pre flowering stage. During this time the plants should exhibit explosive growth, often as much as a new set of nodes and 1" vertical growth a day. This is the time when they will gain most of their vertical height. Many people make the mistake of switching from vegetative to flowering nutrients at this point, assuming that since they see flowers it must be the proper time. This is incorrect. If the switch to flowering nutes is made at this time the vertical growth will stop and the plant will put it's energy into producing buds. If you need to keep your plants small, or want them to finish earlier, they by all means switch nutes at this point. But if you want to get the most out of your plants continue feeding vegetative nutes until you see the vertical growth slow and stop. Depending on the strain that will usually be sometime during week 5 or 6.

He's saying that changing your nutes from veg to flowering will induce flowering ......didn't think it worked that way .....is he correct?

Not sure on that tbh but rule of thumb is to use grow till end of stretch anyway.
Although some do go to flower nutes at first signs.

Surely it would just show a lack of N? They use a lot if N during stretch?

Changing your nutrients from grow to bloom early won't induce flowering and it certainly won't allow you to harvest them any earlier.. But as you mention it will stop the plant from growing to its full potential. As during the cross over period between veg and flower your plants need plenty of nitrogen to support the final push of secondary leaf and internode growth.

The crucial element for inducing flower early is phosphorus so I can see what there getting at as the bloom nutrient contains more phosphorus than the grow nutrient. However the phosphorus ratio alone in the bloom nutrient isnt enough to induce full flower early you would need to raise the p level further by adding in a pk additive.

He's just saying that plants need N for their stretch & not providing enough N at his point will stunt the plant.

However, may people, growing in soil and large enough pots, won't be feeding anything at this point as the soil may still be holding all that's needed...
