Thread: Fans, air flow rate, and ducting!?

Default Fans, air flow rate, and ducting!?

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge, maybe a bit of science, when it comes to fans, what amount of air they move and how the duct sizes and / or reducing them affects how they move air and noise levels

For example, you can get a box fan that moves 3250m3/hr of air, in various duct size connections like 8" and 10", however, again for example, if I have the 10" collar/hole on my box, what would matter or change if I reduced the ducting to say 8" or even 6" of if it? Surely not less air flow? Maybe more noise?

Hopper send jesse a message mate, I know it makes a big difference to the amount of air it moves and the life span of the fan.

I saw that one, didn't quite cover what I'm asking tho :/

Tbh it must be fine going to 8" ducting as the 3250 comes in 8, 10 and 12 inch options, maybe I haven't seen the 8" and I'm gunna get shown up here but I'm sure it was available in 8", just thinking 6" would be even easier to work with where I'd be putting it!

Plus obviously learning why these things matters etc x

If you oversize ye ducting then the air kind of dissipates as it leaves the fan, breaking it up if ye like and makin it slower as it passes threw the duct, same size duct as fan then itl come threw the duct like a heard of bulls and make it louder
