LED is certainly a compromise in my opinion. Its cheap to run but it wont give the yields that HPS does. Good luck with whatever you decide on

    Thumbs up

    Alright mate.

    Welcome to the forum.

I'm a noob in comparison to M_C but I grow in a tent not much larger than your cupboard so you might want to have a look through some of my diaries to see what sort of gear I've used.

I've got away with as much as 600w hps during the winter in this space but happier in the 300-400 watt range for an easier time cooling but you should be able to use something better than cfls.

As for number of plants for this space I've done between 2 and 5 plants.

I've been looking at lights all day! Even though it's more money than I was hoping to fork out, I'm very much looking at a hps setup. It's a toss up between a cheap 250 Watt with standard ballast or pay a bit more and get a 600 Watt digital dimmable 250/400/600 ballast so I can keep my options open.

My 1st 2 grows were in a similar space and venting into attic. I was using a 300w Mars Hydro LED (Cost £55) and the most I got un total from 2 plants, trained and topped was 40g between them. If I hadn't made newbie mistakes I could have easily achieved 1oz per plant. The quality was out of this world though and no problems with overheating.

Have now moved my 3rd grow up into the attic and added another 600w Mars LED and switched to growing autos. Looking forward to the results 😊

If you CAN go with HPS but I do like my LED's 😁

Settled on getting a digital 250/400/600W balast kit. Now trying to keep venting as low as possible, so would appreciate any feedback on this. Being a small space I worked out it only needed about 60l/hour so a basic fan might do? Then again would a small 100l/hour fan be enough to keep the heat at bay? Also I need to bear in mind noise levels as this is in a cupboard upstairs?

Rather than thinking low venting, think low noise venting instead!

So, stay away from the cheap end of the market as they tend to be less efficient & noisier too

Look at the RVK, RUCK range...
