    Question False widow spiders

We have had 3 false widow spiders coming into our living room in 2 months. 2 in July and one last night. Should I be concerned??

You should be concerned as they can put you in hospital.

    They are violent thugs...

I captured No.2 and kept it in a jar. Fed it a stray wasp. Last night threw in No.3 into the jar. The 2 falsies jostled for a few moment and calmed down. This morning, not sure which one, but one has become food to the other.

May be I need to call Captain Pyrethrin.

They aren't particularly nice spiders. I a few years ago spotted a medium one on my ceiling above the middle of my bed just as I was going to bed, so I went to kill it, but missed, it dropped into my sheets and I couldn't find it. Not being too bothered, I decided to go to sleep and ignore it, a few minutes later, I felt a very small sting on my ass. I rolled over and found a dead spider where I'd been lying. It stung me on my ass, it gave me a small pea sized lump where it had bitten me as I'd rolled over onto it.

I switched to killing them with spider killer after that. Btw, don't use fly spray, it doesn't work on spiders, something to do with how the spray works and the respiratory system on flies being different to spiders.

False widows will eat other spiders. Apparently, their bite is no worse than a wasp sting - pain wise.

At least you don't have to deal with a brown recluse.

I have been led to believe that they could not penetrate human skin, so even though their venom is fairly serious, they haven't the necessary fangs to make the puncture. Okay, guess not.

Just to clarify, they are black with what looks like a vicious looking skull on their abdomen.

You should feel lucky though, in hotter climates, such as Australia and California, people have to go round the outside of their houses and garden lawns with basically a flame thrower to kill black widow nests and funnel web spiders to stop them spreading.

Me and my brother found a funnel web spider in a hole in australia, we started prodding it with a stick, it wasn't very happy about that.
