I use one of these, no hum whatsoever even on its lowest setting.

These are bang on for the money.. If your looking at SMS models you will need the hybrid model as the rest aren't variac and hum at low speeds.

only problem with the ecotechnics is it will make tge fan hum like hell at low speeds, if that matters get the one blue has shown as its a variac and makes them run silent at any speed... if you want more of a lazy mans controllet go for the smscom hybrid

Sorry for reopening this thread but can you tell me if this Variac fan controller is suitable for me.

I have 1.2 x 1.2 tent with just a 5 inch rvk exhaust fan no intake.

I have temp fluctuation when lights are off down to 18-19degs.

    Lights on 28 degs.

Can this fan control my exhaust fan and set the temp for me when lights are off to keep my temp more stable ?

This fan controller is manually operated and not temperature controlled so you would need to dim with the controller yourself during the lights off period.

    Yes excuse my stupidity.

So can basically play with the setting on lights off to get the correct fan power to achieve desired temp ?

Or am I still wrong ?

Yes that’s correct, you would need to adjust it yourself to achieve the desired fan speed and temperature.

So you can have two settings programmed somehow can you for lights on and lights off ?

Or perhaps you would turn the controller on via a timer plug on lights off ?
