Also, sorry lol - I hear alot of growers have switched to LED - is this now better than HPS/MH ??

Not yet but cost to run is far less hence why people have traded out.

most growers still use 'hps of cfl's' some do use led's though, i don't think anything will ever replace the intensity of a good 600w bulb,

genetics do play a big part in the strength of a plant, i once grew 4x blackwidows by mr. nice as well as 4x blackwidows by Positronic,
the mr nice version was way way stronger, although yielded less than the Positronic, it was a much better smoke,

but the fact u had little thc visible would suggest it was more environment than genetic,
no one gets it perfect the first time round,
