some times it better to buy i bigger fan than you really need, as you can then use speed controller and run it at say 50 or 60% which is much quiter than runnin it at full pelt.

also boxing them up using mdf and filling it with insulation will reduce the noise alot then add some acoustic ducting an you shud be on to a winner

RVK fans are also a great and ideal fan to use, A1 version have little less punch than the L1 model

Get yourself a variac, mate. They are around £60 but well worth it. Without one I wouldn't be able to grow. The cheap ones can buzz and also shorten the life of the fan. Not so with a variac.

What kind of ducting do you have on it ? If its the simple walled foil type , it csrries the sound like crazy , Best is insulated with p.e linerninside ,wrapped in insulation and an extra thick p.e layer , givin 3 layers of sound protection

all my rvks have been bangin on well for feck knows how long without a variac. yes it will take the buzz out but they will only buzz if you really reduce the fan speed say below 40% . cheaper option is to box them up, cost ya bout 10quid.

I use acoustic ducting, but you have to be careful with it as there's fibreglass inside.

I have my variac on it's lowest setting most of the time, or up one notch, but never higher. My fan is inside a padded box.

I almost passed out putting mine up. I had a mask on, but with COPD and asthma, it hindered rather than helped.
