    Default GuardianGrow RDWC grow diary (1st grow)

    Hey guys,

    This is my first grow. So I wanted to document everything. And learn as much as I can in the process. Any helpful advice is welcomed

    I'm using the Current Culture 4-site system (13gal buckets) with a 1/4hp ecoplus water chiller . I'm following the High-Yield CC grow schedule for now, so If you ever want to know any numbers for things you can rely on my following their recommendations. Source RO water is about 40ppm (not sure what that is in EC). I just picked up some Alien OG clones from the dispensary in small rock wool cubes. They were transplanted on Nov.20th. These first pics will have the leaves looking droopy, I was told that I needed to top feed them initially and they perked right up.

    Just some more pictures of the plants after top feeding. This is about a whole day later, but they perked up within a few hours.

    And some Day 1 roots pics. I know they aren't very clear, but its the best I could get for now. They just started coming out the basket and reaching for the water underneath. The water lever is about 1" away from the bottom the rockwool.

    Ec=0.2
    Sol Temp=70F
    Ph=6.2

    the start is always the same bud, you need to kinda train the roots
    too much watering the rockwool can cause the roots to become lazy
    let them search but dont let the rockwool dry out, its why i dip the bottom quickly in a mix before i transplant them into a setup, but even then i make sure i have some nice roots built up

    they will start shooting up as soon as they reach the feed

    you say the water is about an inch away from the rockwool which is raised , so does that mean the bottom of your netpots are submerged?
    and what is the medium in the pots? is it limestone?
    if i help drop a THANKS its free

    personally i would want my nutrient solution lower 70f = 21.1
    i know some guys grow with much higher temps with adding additives but may want to look into lowering it
    i have a chiller but you may get away with adding frozen water bottles to your res, maybe a try
    im not saying its a must as i know some guys get away with it

    you want to aim for 18 to 20 degrees for the water/ chiller temps.
    I'm no fan of rockwool cubes either, they tend to get waterlogged leading to stem damping off, but hopefully you will be ok, Root it cubes are better, as they don't retain so much water.
    What level is your water at? I ask because the cube looks a bit water logged. You don't want the water level touching the cube at all.
    the micro droplets as the air bubbles breach the surface water tension will create a fine mist which feeds the roots.

    Good luck with it.

    1st Week Update:

    Roots are growing, but not as fast as I had hoped. I believe this may be from my lack of top watering this past week. After day 3 or 4 the roots looked like they were getting long enough to touch the water so i left them alone. Since then I have seen very little root growth, but the water level has been slowly going down. which makes me think the roots are feeding. However, EC is the same (at 0.2), no vertical plant growth and very little root growth. PH=6.1,Temp=71.

    I have the plants sitting in grow stones and my net pots are submerged about 1 inch deep. the water level has gone down a bit since then and they are only submerged in a few centimeters of solution now. I plan to add feed (at the same EC) to bring the level back up within 1/4inch of the rockwool. I thought they might start taking off soon, but it seems to have stopped growing roots for a few days now. I posted some updated pictures in this thread. Any help would be much appreciated

    This is where my water level is currently (11/28/17). its only a few centimeters from the base of the net pot.
    A week ago its was at the top of the 2nd rung from the bottom of the net pot.
