Default 400W MH in veg room ??

Hi guys on my second grow and currently have 4 girls in veg under a 600W MH light which is dimmed to 400Ws at the minute and is around 36'' above canopy they are doing really well and are very bushy but the last couple of days i have noticed they are starting to pull, the light is giving off a lot of heat that's why i have it so high, would it be advisable to either drop the light or maybe turn it up to 600Ws, and do i need to switch off light and ballast before turning up to 600W, cheers in anticipation guys, G'.

you shouldn't dim a MH bulb mate, it's better to get a 400w mh bulb and put that in on the 400w setting,
my 400w mh is only 10''-12'' away from the tops, but i do have a fan blowing across the bottom of the bulb to mix air,

as for just going from 400 to 600 i dunno, i only adjust my ballast at lights off,

What are your temps at canopy level?

P.s. what do you mean leaves are starting to pull?
