Default Which base nutrients or organic fertilisers for soil grows indoors

    I. Am. Stumped.

And I am not looking to start any fights!

I have trawled these boards and have not been totally convinced one way or another:

Should I splash out and buy proper Big Boys' nutes like those by Canna, Dutch Pro, General Hydroponics etc?

I am really drawn towards Iguana Juice at the moment, but compared to Fish, Blood, and Bone from Wilko at £1.49 for a kilo (or thereabouts), or any Liquid Seaweed out there (about £5 for 500ml to a litre, depending on brand and shop), I can't help but wonder... Surely, a plant, is a plant, is a plant, right?

Cannabis is called weed for good reasons, and Tomatoes DON'T grow wild. Yet tomatoes do fine with Growmore, Miraclegrow and such like, so why invest some 20-odd times the money for nutrients for a plant that is pretty resilient anyway?

One day I am gonna do a head-to-head showdown grow and let the nutes duke it out, but until then, I'd like to know what you guys think: Budget or Big Boys, and why. Thanks.

(I have been growing "normal" plants all my life with varying success. Saw some guy on YouTube feeding his chillies with hydro GH nutes with great success, so I got some Vitalink hydro nute but had a terrible experience, which is one of the reasons I am hesitant to buy "proper" nutes, besides costs. )

any fertilizer will work, shit miracle grow will likely get the job done..... soil grows are not that picky with nutes, however if you start out with shitty soil you will run into problems down the line. A proper tea, from shit like fish bone blood and seaweed, can come up with some serious results. A lot of people create there own mixtures of nutes with great results, if you go this route then you might as well go organic completely. HOWEVER cannabis is a weed sure, but like ANY weed out there it has certain things it likes and doesnt. canna, dutch pro are created for cannabis and have been a standard for a long time for a reason. You pay for what you get in my opinion, nothing beats a good canna product...... Now all the top dollar bud boosters and finishers I feel are over played........ but for veg and flower i spend the money. Sure the plant is resiliant, but you would be pissed off to go into week 5 of flower and get some weird deficency or issue that is a pain in the ass to sort out....... its all opinion..... i drive luxury vehicles too..... im guessing your more of a honda driver?

Personally I think it's comes down too

Are your trying to max out your plants potential or grow a happy healthy plant through to fruition?

The right NPK will do the job but the balance of micro nutes may vary

Just my 2 cents, I use whatever I can afford

Thanks, gentlemen. Yeah, pretty much what I have been thinking too: pushing to get the maximum from the genetics, or "just" do the best within all the parameters, or limiting factors.

LOL Skunky n Funky, you are nor far off! HELL NO is my answer to shipping (in general)! I believe in money well spent, not blowing it just because the opportunity is there.

I am still inclined towards AN's Iguana Juice or Mother Earth, but the determining factor will be what my local hydro shop has in stock! I hope I don't get stuck with Vitalink.

Would be interesting how Team Budget vs Team Big-Boys goes. What strains shall I use? Autos or photos? Photos will allow for clones thus taking out one of the variables. TBH my tent is tiny so results will be totally anecdotal, but still, sounds like a fun project.

Depends what you want out of it, you can go cheap with nutes and still get good results, this is the first time ive actually spent a bit on nutes so im about to find out for myself if its all worth it but aslong as you're not over feeding it cant be worse lol. From what ive seen on here though most people do have some sort of boosters for their plants. Id rather spend that extra bit for nutes that are actually designed for weed though because you know its giving it what it actually needs.

I get what you mean and I agree in principle.

Space is a limiting factor for me so my tent is only 4ft tall, with a footprint of 40 x 40cm, so if the tent only allows, say, at best 70% of what the plants can do, paying 20x the money for specialist nutes that bring about the last 5% performance becomes pointless.
