Hi just got home and checked the res. The pH is 6.3 and the EC has risen from 0.9 to 1.1 since this morning? Surely that can't be right can it?

Hello mate, I can advise you here but bear with me as my keyboard is knaff. Ill have to do it in bits and bats. First thing you need to do is a complete tank change. Ill recheck original post for ec etc.. and there will be more in next post

Right, your fresh tank should be done by first using the 50 ltr capacity, it will help to keep things stable, then adding your root stim first at stated dose, then enough grow nutes to take your ec to 0.7. Then ph to 5.6.
Ec rising means they are spitting nutes, (vomiting if you like) so the feed is too strong.

Thanks ladymaryjane
My water straight out the tap is 0.6

Do you let your water sit for 24 hours before use?

No as I don't have anything big enough to store it in. May have to get a plastic bin of some sort.
I use it straight out the tap

Letting it sit for 24 hours will get rid of the chlorine and help to stabilize the ph. Do this asap. The key to this is ph. That is the no1 factor as it controls food and water availability. Always make sure your ph is bang on and feed as low an ec as you can,( plants will tell you when to raise it) is the golden rule.

Thanks is that why I haven't noticed much growth as of yet as the nutes are too strong?

Sort of, in early life once they have a few leaves to process food, they concentrate more on putting out roots so not much will happen up top for awhile. All you do is maintain ph and ec levels until the water level starts to drop. This is where the meters come in.
Water level falling with ph and ec stable = sweet spot= don't change anything.
Ec falling with ph rising= plant feeding= raise ec by 1 or 2 points
Ec rising= too much= lower ec to where plants were feeding
Anything else= tank change.
